BT disconnected?

I just got oncourse/BT-338 today and have been playing with it. It seems that the the BT and Axim will not automatically connect.. i have to select it and connect them. Also, whenever i seem to exit the program, the axim/bt become unpaired. Isn't there some way to automatically connect the two once I turn the GPS on?

No, there is not. OCN5 will initiate the connection once it is configured and the first pairing is manually made, and then when you exit it will drop the connection. If you want to get around that function, GPSGate will connect and hold the BT connection open and even allow you to split the incoming data to more than one application. But there is no good way to connect when the receiver is turned on because the Axim doesn't search for signals until you tell it to do so.

I have no experience of OnCourse automatically "renewing" the connection to the GPS device... ?

Here's what I do:

One time only:
  1. Under bluetooth manager, create a pairing with the ax and your BT-338
  2. Check the box that says "always use this device"
  3. Close BT-Manager
  4. With BT on, start OCN5 and let find BT device

From here on out:
  1. Turn on GPS unit
  2. Turn on BT (just use icon on bottom right of screen)
  3. Start OCN5 - that's it, simple.

Hope this helps :approve:

Tap and hold the icon, the tap on "Connect." That will establish the pairing. Now open OCN5, set the GPS to either find it automatically, or to COM7, 4800 baud and let them connect. Now, the next time you want to use OCN, just follow the steps RobMan listed.

The ? is to show that the manager wants to know what to do with that BT Device.

The BT connection is 38,400, set automatically. The serial connection is standardized for 4800 but you can change it with some software. It'll work just find at 4800 baud, so I'd recommend leaving it there. In between the BT link and the serial port the PPC will make the speed adjustment for you also automatically.
