Gps 101?

I know very little if anything about GPS and PDA migration. I have an axim X3i, can I do GPS navigation with that model. If so, what do I buy? I already have Pocket Streets 2004.

Cool

Thanks for the info, though I must admit it is a bit over my head. Could you tell me if the axim X3i can do GPS navigation? If so, which one should I get? Then there is the matter of software. I have Pocket Streets now.

Thanks again.

yes, the X3i can do GPS. What you get is very personal because most of them "work" the same, but have very different interfaces. I would recommend you get Mapopolis' latest beta and try it out. It's free software, you end up paying for maps, but they have a 9 day demo set of maps. Download the map for your local area and give it a try. Decide what you like and don't like, then look for those features in the reviews here at Aximsite and at www.gpspassion.com. You can get the latest beta Mapopolis from here. You don't need a gps to play with it, but you will to see it in action. For hardware, what is "best" depends on your circumstances. As I said in GPS201, the more critical factors are the interfaces and planned use. If you want to geocache, or if you are in a heavily forested area, or an urban canyon area, then you need a more sensitive receiver, either SirfIII or Xtrack2. If you are in an open area and only plan on using it for driving directions, just about any receiver will do.
