yes, the X3i can do GPS. What you get is very personal because most of them "work" the same, but have very different interfaces. I would recommend you get Mapopolis' latest beta and try it out. It's free software, you end up paying for maps, but they have a 9 day demo set of maps. Download the map for your local area and give it a try. Decide what you like and don't like, then look for those features in the reviews here at Aximsite and at

here. You don't need a gps to play with it, but you will to see it in action. For hardware, what is "best" depends on your circumstances. As I said in GPS201, the more critical factors are the interfaces and planned use. If you want to geocache, or if you are in a heavily forested area, or an urban canyon area, then you need a more sensitive receiver, either SirfIII or Xtrack2. If you are in an open area and only plan on using it for driving directions, just about any receiver will do.
