IGuidance - Text to Speech

Does IGuidance use text to speech? I switched from Mapopolis to Destinator 3 because I couldn't get over the robot voice. I was considering upgrading to Destinator PN but I rode with a friend who has it and it uses the text to speech (significantly better than Mapopolis but still sucks IMHO). I understand the text to speech is so the program gave pronounce street names. I'd much rather have a regular voice and no street names. Having it on the map is good enough for me. So, bottom line is, does IGuidance sound like a robot or a person?

The female voice sounds pretty good. Not perfect but better than a robot.

Actually, with Mapopolis you get the best of both--you can use TTS or you can use recorded .wav files. Crystal is one, there are others at their support website. Folks have also configured the speech files for more concise prompts, too.

Destinator PN sounds fine to me, as good as the others, anyway. Could it be your friend's setup was just lousy at sound? I don't think it uses TTS, as there are a tone of .wav files in the DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Interface\Voice\A LL folder.

BTW, the X5 speaker is lousy, so even the BEST will sound awful. Get a powered set of speakers and you'll be happier all around.

I think he had his volume all the way up and maybe the speaker was overdriven. Still, IMO, Destinator PN sounds a lot worse than Destinator 3. The only thing I can think of is they had to make some adjustment to speak the street names. It's irrelevant to me now because I've already ordered it. Had to have a bluetooth gps wanted to get a better deal on upgraded software/maps.

Forgot to mention. I agree, X5 speaker is lousy. I'm using a Siemens SX66. If anyone is considering integrating a phone into their pocket pc. It's the best bang for the buck. Gave the X5 to the wife.
