iGuidance... Arrgghhh! Help!! Need New GPS Software

Alright so I need some help! I currently have iGuidance but I want a GPS sofware that would do something like allow me to choose which roads I wanted to go on and which roads I wanted to avoid... I know they have the options like "shortest.. Quickest.. Local.. and Major" but that really isn't what I'm looking for, you see I want to say "never use NR.22 or something like that... or I would at least like something that figures my trip and then gives me my top three choices... like "St Rt 22, ETA 7:45, Dist, 90mi" "Penn TurnPike, ETA 7:37, Dist 96mi" "DDD, DDD, 108mi"
Please help...
Logan

I don't know of any s/w packages that will give multiple options .. at least not together at the same time. OCN allows for road blocking only on road you are currently on ... not at all what you are looking for.

IMHO ... if one of the nav s/w companies would incorporate the blocking function of MS&T for the desktop ... that feature alone would make it the killer app. (on screen .. drag a rectangle to avoid area). This is a better method than blocking individual steets. For instance, you can avoid an entire metro area at rush hour for instance by blocking it. PPC screen size could be an issue.

I avoid areas like this now in OCN by just choosing an intermediate stop in another small city that forces the route in that direction. A minor incovenience.

As far as individual streets, ultimately, I guess if you know which roads to go on and which to avoid, you really don't need the directional nav s/w to begin with.

Yeah, that's why I hate iGuidance at the moment! I was going through PA and I wanted to take the turnpike but no matter what I tried it wouldn't let me! Instead it took me on SR 22 through Pitsburgh at about 6:30 am on a Monday... Man it was rush hour and I was bummed!!! Cause the turnpike wouldn've been the same milage!
Oh well, If anyone knows of software that will give me the top three route or so, please let me know!

If you had just driven to the turnpike, it would have rerouted you, maybe even taking the turnpike. You don't HAVE to follow the directions all the time...it'll do just fine rerouting as soon as you leave the planned route.

didn't I read here that mapopolus lets you choose roads for your route? There is a free trial, give it a try

Pretty much all of them will let you define the route you want. You can set an interim destination on the stretch of highway you want to take and the software will make another stab at calculating. The name for the option differes (destination, waypoint, stopover, route-through) but basically you can set your route. For example, I live in Fairfax, VA and drive to Bloomfield NJ fairly often. I avoid the I-95 corridor whenever I can, but the software keeps directing that route. I want to go through Gettysburg and Harrisburg PA, then I-78 to NJ. It's an easier, if longer, drive. To get the mapping software to do that route for me, I have to add a point somewhere in MD/PA. Some software will find the route if I just add a waypoint on the Point of Rocks bridge across the Potomac, others need an additional point on I-78 near Harrisburg. But once the route was plotted, I saved it so next time I don't need to reenter it to track along, I just reload it. The lesson is, you can craft the route you want with a couple of waypoints.

You can make iGuidance do this in a way.

Choose your destination then hit nav, after hitting nav it should bring you out to the guidance screen at this point hit the flag icon on the tool bar, then select detour, look for your road on the route list and higlight it then hit the AVD (avoid) icon and then hit nav and it will recalculate the route and not use any road you selected to avoid.

With all due respect, if you know that you want to take "the turnpike" then just drive there, let it redirect and follow it once you get there... Technology us great but let's not get too lazy. Besides it seems like it would be more work to get in there and list the roads you want to avoid rather than just driving to the road you want. With all due respects...

It is that easy if you use the recalc registry update. It will create a new route in less than 30 seconds. Of course you should make sure that you don't have the program set to not use toll roads or it will still try to reroute you.

Thanks to all! I'm learning about my gps software! I guess I should do more research before I go fussing about how it works. It's my fault... I guess I just felt like venting after being dumb enough to follow it through pittsburgh Pa at rush hour! If I had know the software I could have done better... not to mention that I'm a young driver!

well the registry update ..may not work on 2.1.2...as it did with 2.1.1 as per one of the forum members at gpspassion who "was supported" by Inav

when I did ...I am not sure it worked
