Linksys CF Wireless Card $29.99 (AR) WCF12
CompUSA is running a sale until 5/24 for the Linksys WCF12 wireless compact flash card.
$79.99
$10.00 Instant rebate
$40.00 Mail in rebate - NOT New Rochelle
----------
$29.99 Final price plus tax on $69.99

I ordered mine last week from Best Buy and did a PM to CompUSA so that I didn't have to do the rebate thing. Plus you should get 110% price match if it goes right the final price is $24.99 plus tax.

Just remember Best Buy On-Line does not price match. The B&M Best Buy is the only way to PM and CompUSA has to be within 30 miles. It maybe easier to do the rebate?????? YMMV

Do you tell BB they have it for $29.99 or give the print out with or without the rebate info?
Concerned they wont price match with rebates.

My documentation was print-outs from the CompUSA internet site along with the rebate form saying its only a CompUSA eligable rebate.
If they say rebates are not included in the PM policy I would make it point to turn the tables on them.
Find a BB product with a large rebate and then go and find the same product elsewhere that is cheaper based on purchase price alone.
Then ask them to do a PM on the base price. If the Manager is sharp he'll tell you no the BB price is cheaper after rebate.
So you get him to admit to rebate inclusion in a PM. Once you make him say it 5 time then ask him to PM the network card! I did this once a while ago with a Microsoft USB wireless adapter.
Anyway the CompUSA internet site still shows its available.

I've had mine a few days and these are my thoughts/experiances:
1) Install wizard works. Installs all the drivers and software. Nothing extra needed to get a connection.
2) Range a data rate are nearly as good a PC card version (WPC11).
3) Power consumption. - Battery life is about 1/2 of normal use. Without the card I can get 4 hours or more with Axim. Using the Linky card for 2 hours to get the network connctions properly configured drained the batteries to 30%.
4) PPC OS just sucks when it comes to configuring various networks connections. Had to soft boot several times and create new connections to get everything working right. What should taken a couple seconds to set (get auto IP/DNS from DHCP server), took a couple of hours to get right.
5) One annoying thing is the card is just about the same width as the CF slot in the axim. It takes carefull aim and some wiggling to get the card to slide into the CF slot. It fits tight? It'll never fall out or have loose connection? But don't try it after a few drinks.
6) WEP at 128 bits works well and does not seem to hinder/slow normal operation.
If any one is intrested here a link to the FCC filing on the card. It includes power output (max 15 dBm) and some pictures of the internal chips.

Wow, I'm typing this from my Axim connected wirelessly.
Currently I'm the furthest point from my Linky router, about 50 feet away and one floor above. Link quality are both "fair" at 40%. I was also reading other threads with pictures enabled.
Hope this posts ok?

I recieved my CF card today, and I am pretty impressed with it. I would post my thoughts, but they would just reiterate the post by sstinman, except the time spent getting it to work with my network. It took me a total of 5 minuets from getting it out of the box to getting on the net with my Ax and wifi card. Pretty sweet!
sstinman, you said you were reading threads with "pictures enabled". Does that mean there is a way to always have the pictures come up with IE? I am not enjoying having to individually bring up every picture. Also, does anyone have any better way to browse than just putting IE into landscape mode? I would love using the Ax if it weren't so bad at showing pages. Of course, I am looking for free options. It isn't worth the money to me.

In the tool bar at the bottom of the page there is an icon that looks like a white sheet of paper with a few colored geometric shapes on it ( I think its the right most icon). That button toggles pictures on or off as the sites are loaded. Also, its in the tool list.
My wife has my Axim right now so I can't get more specific. It is a dangerous thing, she may not give it back! I've been able to keep it away from her for 2 weeks know. LOL
How do you get IE into landscape mode?
Also, to be clear on the set-up issues my problems were related to PPC OS issues not the card or drivers.
BTW - Once everything is running enable to power save mode on the second tab in the Linky monitor program. It really helps extend the life of the batteries.
To make it easier to see pages stick with sites that are optimized for PPC. Its really the cheapest way. See this thread.

Oh, Ok. I was wondering what that icon did. Thanks. To get IE into landscape, you actually have to put the whole OS into landscape mode using the pockettop keyboard driver http://www.aximsite.com/modules.php?s=&name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=12
Thanks for the tip on saving energy. It was eating away at my battery pretty bad.

linksys cf card has poor reception
I got the linksys cf card today at compusa, for 29.95 after rebate, installed it no problem with downloaded software from the linksys site. But the link quality is poor, even when the dlink router is in direct view and less than 300 feet away... my avaya card on the laptop gets excellent reception when linksys is hit and miss. THe Avaya card sees through 3 boats while the Linksys can see the transmitter, but cannot signal back. It is going back friday if linksys has no advice... may be it is a bad unit. any other explanation?

CRAP! I thought they had to be ordered before the 24th, but the rebate says
Request must be postmarked
no later than 6/24/03.
Darn it. Oh well. I guess I'll buy one at a later date.

Yes your rebate must be post marked by 6/24/2003 - JUNE. This is still MAY. You have over month to return the rebate.
A few more days left to get one.
Sailstar you must have a bad CF card.
To double check
1) Disable power save mode found on the second tab of the Linky Monitor software.
2) Disable WEP encryption. Both on the Axim and router.
3) Have router broadcast SSID.
4) Soft boot Axim once all changes have taken place.
5) Don't stay too long in this mode your network is wide open.
If your signal is still bad then its a bad card. Have Comp USA replace it. Don't let them tell you to go through the Linksys RMA process (take a few weeks to complete). You should have a 2 week warranty from CompUSA.
