I'd love to know what the experts suggest here. I've used both types, have a card reader than supports both types, and don't have a particular affinity for either...
thanks,
ben

Most programs work fine installed on a card and that is what most people do.

Factorydirect is doing a Bait & Switch!!
They are advertising a 55X 2GB SD but selling you the Dane-Elec 2GB instead. The Dane-Elec part is a Toshiba SD card and is NOT 55X even though they say it is.
Even Dene-Elec and Toshiba's websites won't give you the relative speed for this card. They only say it can do 10Mb 'max'. Pocket Mechanic tells me the X50 writes to it a .1X and reads at 7X.
Also, the $89 is AFTER a Factory Direct rebate of $20, so you need to pay $110+tax and submit for a rebate.
I have Kingston and Ultra branded SD cards that are also made by Toshiba and are slow - but then again, the SD and CF drivers in the X50 aren't the most optimized either.

Are Dane-Elecs still Toshiba OEMs?
They used to be in the 512MB max. days. However, my first 1GB SD card was a Dane-Elec that was rated 60x and looked a lot like these pictures. That card was fine, btw, not as quite as fast as my 1GB SimpleTech, but more than good enough for PDAs and consumer cameras.
