CF GPS receiver for $35.99 or Bluetooth for $73.99!
The folks over at Geeks.com have some good deals on GPS receivers, if you're not particular about brand names.

They've got a CF model on sale for $35.99. See details HERE .

If you'd prefer Bluetooth, one is on sale for $73.99. See details HERE .

I haven't tried either, but the prices seem pretty reasonable. I think I'm going to pick up the $39.00 USB receiver to use with our laptops on long trips.

I haven't used the CF card GPS. I have a blue tooth GPS (DeLorme Blue Tracker) that I use with my Axim X50v. Here's a couple of things to think about with the CF card GPS. You may have difficulty getting a lock on satellites with it in your PDA when you are driving unless you put your PDA on the dashboard. Secondly, you'll have extra drain on your PDA battery. With an external unit, you should not have these problems. True, BT uses extra power for external communication, but probably not as much as driving the GPS card.

May be huge for something that goes in a CF slot but comparing this to most GPS recievers that connect via BT they are both about the same size.

I would probably buy a car charger if I was using my Axim in my car alot.

So if I get this then I have to buy some sort of software I suppose. What is decent software for just showing where I am on a map (of NYC for instance)? I don't really need something to give me directions; if I have a map and know where I am I can generally figure out the rest.

Yeah, that CF one is huge. But, if it works who cares? Not a bad price if it's really worth it.

It says it comes with some soft of map software, prob not fully featured. It will prob work with any major GPS software, did a Google search and few places sell same package, but this is cheapest price.

If you want something to just show where you are without directions on your Axim, Microsoft Streets and Trips should work with just about any GPS receiver. It works with my CF Haicom. Streets and Trips WILL give you voice directions if you were using it on a laptop and connecting the CF via USB card reader or PCMCIA card slot adapter.

Streets and Trips is less than $30 at Sam's Club and Costco.

I purchased the CF GPS unit from Geeks last fall when they were $54.
It's an 8 channel unit and the sensitivity is good. The only real complaint I have is that the mechanical construction is CHEAP, but then, it's only $36 on sale.
Essentially, the top and bottom shields on the CF part that fits into your PDA are not bonded to the plastic frame very well and when you get it, you will need to adjust the small clips on the sides of the shields so they clip together.

Aside from that, I use this with Mapopolis and a few other GPS utils. In fact, if you go to the various manufacturer sites of CF GPS cards, they all have demo apps for PocketPC that allow you to grab rudimentary info from just about any CF GPS device that uses a serial IO port.

The unit uses the Trimble chipset: http://www.trimble.com/gpsbc_firstgps.shtml

So does anyone have any problems with this?
I wanted to purchase this, since I already have the Microsoft Streets and Trips (no GPS) and use it for my Axim x50V.

Is it easy to use? Can i just put it in my Axim, load up Pocket Streets and Trips and than it'll work?

aquariaguy-

That's how it works with my CF (Haicom) GPS unit. It SHOULD work that way with these.

I went on a trip this past weekend and left my Haicom in the other car. Boy did I wish I had a second receiver. I may have to buy one for just such occasions.

Just following up: I ordered one of those CF units on the 22nd and it shipped yesterday, so I'll give my 2 cents on it when it arrives. Too bad it's coming all the way across country via FedEx Ground. It may be a week before I get it.

That's what I get for not upgrading the shipping!

If they have these tiny SDIO GPS recievers can't they make a small CF GPS reciever that fits in the Pocket PC?
Are there any?
Somebody save me?
