Seagate 8GB microdrive $149.99 No Rebates & Free Shipping
After seeing an earlier post that stated the same price, but with the hassles of rebates, I figured I wouldn't bother; however, after checking out the Amazon site, I noticed that they got rid of the rebate and lowered the price down to $149.99 w/ free shipping!!!

This is by far the best value-priced microdrive, I've seen that alledgedly works with the X51V. Here's the Amazon.com details:

Seagate 8 GB CompactFlash Photo Storage Hard Drive ( ST68022C-RK)
Brand New w/ a full 1 Yr Parts & Labor Warranty
List Price: $209.99
Price: $149.99 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. See details
You Save: $60.00 (29%)

No need to mess around w/ any rebates or coupon codes!:approve:

So, after reading that a couple of other Axim X51V users bought this, and were happy w/ it, I went ahead and placed my order. As I already own several speedy SD cards, I don't mind that this is a somewhat "slower" microdrive and not a "real" CompactFlash card. I figured that the sheer amount of data I can store / archive on it, justifies it being slower. I'll still be able to install my apps on my faster SD cards.

cheers

FYI - there were only 11 left when I bought mine.

actually, I bet it will. In case you guys haven't noticed, memory cards have gone through another pricing phase. Everything is getting cheaper again. (2GB sd cards are now around $80 if you look in the right places, 1 GB CF cards can be bought for around $30)

I have noticed but this is 8 GB for $150.00 no rebate.Thats not a bad price. For those who hate rebates this will work.I hate rebates with a passion but I still fight for them when the deal is good enough.

agreed. I'm just saying that I don't think the price will be going above $150 again.

If price drops further, Amazon refunds difference
As jhennig pointed out - to expect the prices to keep dropping...it's nice to know that with Amazon, you'll get the best price guaranteed at least for the next 30 days!!!!

I didn't know this before, but for those of you who might have bought this 8GB card at a higher price than $149.99 within the last 30-days - you can actually get a refund for the difference. I found this out at one of those discount coupon sites, and signed up for them to track this for my recent Amazon purchase. All you need to enter is:

Product ASIN/ISBN: for the Seagate 8GB CF card, it's ASIN: B000BO0SGG
Price: $149.99
Purchase Date: yesterday
E-Mail Address: your e-mail address

and voila!!! you'll have price protection for the next 30 days, if Amazon reduces it's price.

Here's what I got after I entered my details:

"Product "Seagate 8 GB CompactFlash Photo Storage Hard Drive ( ST68022C-RK )" is being tracked for ..."

Amazon.com offers refunds on past purchases if that product drops in price withing 30 days. However, you are responsible for tracking the prices yourself and nobody has time to do that. Thats where we can help!

We have simplified the process for you.
Just enter a little information about your purchase and we'll email you if the price drops. We'll even include the link you need to claim your refund. "

Thought, I'd share with other Axim members who may have not been aware of the Amazon 30-day price difference refund.:approve: I know, I wasn't.

cheers

First thing to look at is the card reader. Are you able to see the CF card when it is inserted into your Axim when it is in the cradle? If you are, then you may have a firmware issue with the card reader. Some card readers can have limitation on geometry that they will recognize.

You should be able to format the new CF card in your Axim (FAT32) and check again to see if your card reader recognizes it then.

If you cannot get your Axim to see the new card, you may have a bad CF MD.

I own this drive and use it daily in my x50v. I am happy with it when used with TCPMP in MD mode and PocketHack Master using the 52MB RAM allocation settings detailed in previous posts here (topic: MP3 skipping).

Good luck,

Kemo:approve:

Still on the fence on this one. I know its the cheapest it has ever been, but hard time trying to rationalize it when you can get a 300GB HDD for your desktop for less than $50 these days.

What about battery life?
Don't these things drain your battery significantly
MY Hitachi did until one day it just stopped working altogether
This may have been an isolated incident
It would probably be cheaper to by a $134.55 from newegg.com
and have the security of compact flash and without frequent rechargers that take away from the purpose of Beweglich
