What is this card reader you all speak of? I have been transferring files via cradle and active sync. I'm feeling a bit prehistoric here.
Card reader is a device that allows you to connect a card to the computer through USB. However, you don't need any drivers (same as USB memory stick). It's a LOT faster than AS and you don't need to have AS on your computer to transfer files.

I bought one of these A-DATA 2GB Secure Digital (SD) Flash Card 50X from NewEgg at $56.99. Their price seems to change a little daily. Right now it is $52.99. I think others here got it even cheaper. I get mine this Tues, 21st. I can't wait!
I have the 2gb A-data 50x watch movies and listen to mp3's and it works flawlessly, not choppy at all. transfer a 600mb movie to it in about 2 min.
What card reader do you use? It's a lot slower than my Kingston Elite Pro 50X 2GB CF.
I use a 12in1 Sandisk to copy 1.91GB of iGuidance files (50 US states) to my cards, here are my numbers:
- Kingston Elite Pro 50X 2GB CF = 287.04 seconds
- Transcend 150X 4GB SD = 134.28 seconds
If your number is correct, I have to pass this one.

It was on sale, but the regular price ended up going down soon after the sale. The irony! :)

Do what I did, buy another one at the better price. You'll feel much better.

I got mine today. It works perfect! I'm still in a frenzy of adding programs and data. Now I'm addicted to cruising the web and looking for things to install.

Same here. I can finally install programs knowing that I'll be keeping this 2gig sd card in the axim. Before I had a 512mb card in it and was not going to commit to keeping it there.

The 2 minutes he mentioned are due to his slow card reader. In my 12-in-1 ImageMate I can copy a 700MB file to my new 2GB 50x A-Data in 1:18. That's almost 9MB/s which is phenomenal for a card like this.
I find your numbers most interesting. Your numbers for the Transcend translate to 14.3MB/s. When I copy a 700MB file to my Transcend in the 12-in-1 ImageMate I only get 63s or 11MB/s. 700MBs are large enough to hide any OS overhead so I expect the card to operate at full speed at this file size. Yet your's is 30% faster than mine. Any idea why?
What card reader do you use? It's a lot slower than my Kingston Elite Pro 50X 2GB CF.

$8 more for the 60x speed (is it newer since it's on the a-data website?). does that make a difference? it also has built in ecc and isp stuff. would this be "better" than the 50x in any way?

There is no direct relationship between rated speed and SD read speed. It's almost random. You have to find a good card-PDA match that someone has benchmarked and use it for your shopping of that exact product.
In the Ritek series, a gold-labeled 1GB 66X SD card was less expensive, and faster than a blue-labeled 1GB 66X SD card. I have no idea why.
If cards worked to their rated speed in all devices, we would see a lot less benchmarking going on.
