What To Do If You Have Bought your Axim In The Last Week

If you have bought your Axim in the last week, ie taken delivery of it in the last week, doubtlessly you would be stuck with the PPC2002 software despite there being the newer version which is already available on the current Axims.
Do not
1.waste time requesting/talking/arguing with Dell Customer service UK, they will in all probability give you just one answer that you will have to pay for the upgrade to PPC 2003 software.
2.Instead call them and tell them that your Axim is not functioning satisfactorily and that you are not satisfied and under the Distance selling act would like to return it.Take the FULL NAME of the person you are speaking to down and ask him to record this request against your account.
3.Write a letter to
Dell Returns Department
Dell Computer Corporation Limited
Milbank House
Weston Road
Bracknell
Berkshire
RG12 1RW
asking for the Axim to be returned, noting the name of the person you spoke to, and send it by recorded delivery. The stamp on the envelope must be at latest within 7 days after you having taken delivery of the Axim.

For those who have bought the Axim after May 23 and before June 17th ,the options are less clear.
Probability of pursuing this collectively through the small courts process?, since microsoft say that the upgrade should be free for those who have purchased the 2002 software after May 23.

For those of you who haven't seen it - the UK Dell site is now selling 2003 upgrades - but it is free for those of you who bought ur Axes post May 32.

I just ordered my upgrade (for £32 incl £9.40 for delivery !!?!!) - I'll let the forum know when I get it and how I get on....

PPC2003 free?

Steve,

When you say that "it is free" for post-May 23 purchasers, what are you basing that on. I bought (placed order) for mine on the 14th June, it was delivered on the 17th/18th, and Dell have told me to get stuffed!

Or should that be, Dell have told me I have been stuffed ;-)

Admittedly, that was based on US information - see the DELL forum here

A direct quote from the Dell moderator :

"Axims purchased after May 23, 2003 are eligible for a free upgrade. At this time we have not announced the procedure for customers to acquire the free upgrade."

If Euro-Dell do not apply the same rules then there is really grounds for complaint......

Yes if you bought after 23rd may you will have to pay.

Sorry folks but Dell has decided to give all UK customers the finger - mind you they have done this everywhere except the USA. So we shouldn't feel too special.

The USA is the only place that Dell is prepared to give out the free upgrades.

Hi folks,

Have just been reading the thread having posted my displeasure with Dell UK on the 'New Products' thread. Wish I had 'clicked' further and hit this one....however,

Seems to me that if our mates in the US (post 23 May) are getting free upgrades, that we in the Uk (and who knows where else) are definately being given the finger and maybe even being discriminated against.

Notice that the Meister of the website was asked by Dell (great honour) to review Windows Mobile 2003 - obviously for the benefit of Axim users - i.e. all of us and I for one, on reading the article (and very good it was) was duped (good word in the UK press at the mo) into ordering the upgrade (reluctantly having to pay for it) to make my AXIM experience more pleasureable.

Won't repeat the text of my earlier thread (I'm trying to kick something off here folks to attack Dell ref the upgrade (see my post in New Products) and maybe if we can create enough noise they may change their policy.

Very discourageing to read such negative experiences from fellow Aximers who have put their faith in Dell only to be given the short shrift 'Bird'.

How does one contact the Meister of this site to perhaps offer his services to represent those that are not at all happy and approach Dell directly to see what can be done to appease the masses.

Call me a pessimist if you like but I often wondered how Dell could sell such a super product at such a price - seems they have entered the 'Ink Cartridge' game to recover their losses. I wonder what Compaq are doing?

Cheers folks,

MDR
