Just got Streets and Trips 2003 from Sam's Club for $14.84 ($34.84 - $20.00 mail in rebate). It contains PocketStreets that can be used on the Axim.

Do you mean that Streets and Trips "2002" will NOT work on the Axim?

That's a good price I will have to check that out. Do you like the software? How are the maps updated? If there are any new roads created can the software be update to reflect this? I heard that driving directions created on the computer can not be synched to the pda, is that right?

Sorry for the 20 questions,

Pocket Streets 2002 will work on the Axim. I do not know what the difference is between the two. Maybe a faster display engine?
If you're using Streets and Trips 2003 to plan out a driving route, you cannot synch it to the pda. However, you can create various maps of your trip to upload to the Axim and load them as you're driving through it. You can probably save the driving directions on to a Word file and use Pocket Word to read the directions.

I have Streets and Trips 2002 installed and working fine on both my XP-Pro desktop and my Dell Axim. I couldn't find 2003.

I don't know what software changes there may be between 2002 and 2003 but I believe there are added map details. 2002 claims 6.4 million miles of streets and highways in the US and Canada vs 6.7 million in 2003.

I have an OEM version of Pocket Streets and Trips 2001. I wasn't able to use it with my old handspring. I was really hoping to get it to work with my Axim. No dice, and it isn't in the budget to purchase the 2002 or 2003 version. Perhaps getting lost in Chicago again will provide more ambition.

Maps created with S&T 2001 will only work with the 2001 pocket version. Likewise 2002 and 2003. Be sure you download the correct map versions if you are getting them off of the web.

If you have S&T on your PC you can create special maps to use while on a trip. Normally you create maps by drawing a marquee around the area you desire to capture. All data (maps, services, etc) is captured so you have to be sure you don't create a file larger than your storage space. For a trip, capture the route in long, narrow strips by creating the marquee along your intended route or highway. You may still have to reload to a different map, but you'll get a lot more mileage per map.

There's an update for PocketStreets at the web site (http://www.microsoft.com/pocketstreets) that adds GPS and Outlook support. This update lets you tap-and-hold on either a Contact with an address, or a Calendar appointment that has an address, to see their location on your PocketStreets map.

I think the PocketStreets Update is only needed for PocketStreets 2002. I am running PS2003 and the mapping of addresses in outlook worked without a patch. I do not have a GPS card yet, so I couldn't test GPS out, but it's coming soon. All of the GPS options are on the menu though.

I did have one question regarding the Outlook Support. When you map a contact, it defaults to the work address of the contact. I can not figure out how to map the home address of the contact. The only thing I can do is delete the work address, then it will map the home address. Any ideas?

I got PocketStreets with MapPoint 2002 so that's probably why I needed the patch.
I have the same problem with the mapping defaulting to a contact's work address. I haven't figured out a solution other than creating separate work and home entries for the same person in my contacts list.
Also, sometimes the address will come up incomplete when it's displayed on the map, yet the location is correct. I suspect that's because there's a limit on the number of characters that can be displayed in the location box on the map.
