I just retuned a defective card I bought last week to compusmart and the price has gone down to $150 from $230. There has been some rumours of a bad batch but if you buy from a bricks and mortoar store you should be able to retun them until you get a goood one. I will post in a few day how the new one I got is.

That is a great deal!! But be fore warned that there is some bad sandisk 256SD floating around. Not all but some. I might be worth looking around as the major dealers are sure to drop price to match. I might be worth an extra $20 to buy locally so you can return it without worrying about shipping. I am going to load up my new (replacement card) today and I'll post if it any good. BTW when I returned mine last night the guy said they have had other bad one last week. Not bad considering how many they sell. I don't think they are dumping them just that they are going to start producing more 500+ and 1gig cards and need to lower the price of those to make them more appealing.

Prior to making the above posting, I committed to purchase this product on-line @ NCIX.com. As my Visa records shows, they immediately charged my account, this was Feb 7.
Today, Feb 11, I noticed that the product was still not shipped. When I "wrote" them a service ticket, they came back with "vendor" made a mistake and it would not be shipped until Feb 28 (ETA). After a very frustrating telephone conversation with them, they made it sound like they're doing me a favour my cancelling my order and refunding my Visa. Yes, when I purchased the product, it was in stock, but the guy on the phone pointed at the little astrix on the "in-stock" symbol and proceeded to read it to me:

Absolutely no accountability for their actions. I full recommend against purchasing anything from NCIX. If you purchased this product and select air shipments, good luck to you.

you know its taken me several years to start ordering on-line. i really thought it was to do with security but when i really think hard...(smell that smoke) it is much more to do with the fact that i would rather spend a little more in a bricks and mortar store for products, knowing that it was very unlikely that some pencilled neck geek was not gonna jerk me around in a face to face.., unlike a faceless entity on a phone or computer. so i'm willing to pay extra to have that customer satisfaction.
economic sense? probably not.
feel good factor? priceless.

Flaming Homer, I've bought stuff from NCIX.com for a long time and found them to be very good at customer service. I don't think they're being unaccountable, they say up front that the In Stock indicator isn't always right. I've spoken to some of them and not had the best experiences, but I've experienced worse at other stores. I've also had great experiences with NCIX.com reps.
Granted, I don't expect to change any minds. That's one problem with e-commerce: one bad experience can forever ruin a site's credibility. I'm just saying that I've fared well with NCIX.com over a long period of time.
chuckecheese, I can agree with the comfort of buying in a store, but not for the same reasons as you. It comes down to credibility. I don't buy anything from sites that don't appear trustworthy. That's just asking for it. Same goes for some of the stores I've been in.
Instead, I'd liken the store experience to film versus digital cameras. In one case, you put in the effort and have to wait awhile for the results. In the other, it's instant gratification. Take a digital picture, see the image. Go into the store, walk out with the product. Kind of funny how these experiences are moving in the opposite directions...

I don't want to beat a dead horse as I've vented @ RFD quite enough, but my main issue is NOT that the web site said it was in stock when it fact it was not. My problem is that they did NOT inform me of the delay (Ordered on Feb 6, Visa charged on Feb 7, ETA of product arriving in THEIR site is Feb 28) until I asked why the shipment hasn't left on Feb 11. And when I called them about it, the guy on the phone was not at all apologetic and came across as doing me a favour by refunding my charge.
A hot deal does not ship 21 days later than promised. But then again, the US Axim owners sure have suffered through that....

I'd love to see a posting that states the day's/week's lowest prices of CF and SD cards....but for today anyway, Amazon.com - $95 for 256 MB SD.....how low will they go?

Returned my defective 256 MB Sandisk SD at Staples last week and they ordered a Lexar for me. Price was $130 and change. Pretty good.

Sandisk 256 mb sd card was bad...
I just had a sandisk 256 mb sd card go belly up on me yesterday; I had only had it for about a week and a half or two. I returned it to Best Buy today and had it exchanged for another one straight across. This one seems to be working well so far..... Anyway, Best Buy had dropped their pricing down as well; they were selling for $89.99. Best Buy even credited my credit card $31 and change for the difference from what I had paid.
Just curious..... what problems is everyone having with their sandisk sd cards? Mine started displaying some wierd language like stuff, wouldn't let me re-format it, wouldn't let me write or erase files on it either...

Just note that the price I quoted is in CDN $ as per the section.
As for problems, I keep getting a request to format (3 times) and when I got to 60-70% full my files disappeared. Directories remained but no files and the card was registering 60-70% full. I have heard people talking about using an external reader to move data. However, the card should work in the PDA. I have used Lexar (granted they are CF) in my camera for a year and no problems.

Porter,
Are you quoting $89.99 for a 128 MB Secure Digital or 256 MB? I went to Best Buy and they were still selling it for $129.
Which location did you go to?

I believe some of the prices these people are posting are in USD.
