I don't think those new guys are getting the $50 rebate that those "early adopters" got for taking a risk. A risk that paid off, don't you think?
Everybody who sells anything changes their specials regularly. The idea is to get NEW customers, increase marketshare while making a profit... There was some rumor that the original pricing may have been at a loss to Dell. (I really don't think they lost anything).
You know what they say in the computer business, "If you don't like the price, just wait."
You can buy a P-3 for a song, you just had to wait long enough, right?
Now that the other $300 Pocket PC's have finally been reviewed, the Axim stands out as the only sub-$400 unit that has it all. (always look at USABEL RAM)
As with every product release, not everything "gels" at the same time. I think Dell wanted to make sure the Axim was ready for the holiday buying season and they couldn't get the wireless ready in the same time frame.
Overall, I would have to say that the Axim has had a very good debut. Reviewers pretty much like it, users like it.
I'm glad to see some focus on getting greater wireless adoption. Tha means that there will be more hotspots, better security, and more open standards that everyone can use.
