Looking for GPS software deal!!!!!
I recently got burned when I purchased Microsoft Streets and Trips for $40 at Best Buy. The salesmen there was oblivious to what I was looking for and since I broke the seal on the software I can't return it. It doesn't do turn by turn directions on the handheld. All you can do is download maps and find POI's and addresses. Has anyone ran accross any decent software deals for a Pocket PC that creates routes, reroutes you when your off route and has voice prompts for the turn by turn directions. Oh yeah and decent graphics. Would love to find Routis or mapopolis for less than there $100 dollar retail. Since I was burned on the streets & trips and just bought my X5 and CF GPS I don't have alot of extra $flow for the software.

Thanks

Yeah ... I wouldn't mind finding a deal like that either.

The Mapopolis application is free and you can download demo maps for free that time out after a few days, which is OK if it is somewhere you are going for less than a week. The site says the demo maps are good for nine days, but I have been using the demo map I downloaded for almost a month now.

Hey thanks brobinson!

What's the link for the free demo? I bought the Delorme street atlas for pocket pc and it works okay. I can create routes from my handheld and track them with very primative and limited voice commands. You pretty much get what you pay for. It will be nice to see what the more expensive software compares. I'm guessing it will be night and day. Especially the auto re-routing feature.

Thanks again!

Oh and by the way after loading the Delorme software my microsoft streets and trips all of a sudden started recognizing my gps hardware and port. I don't get it? Go figure.

Scott

I have the previous version of the Delorme handheld software. I tried that first since they are located just a few miles down the highway from me. I thought it worked pretty well, but Mapopolis seems to be more up to date and is easier to use. I think it will work well for geocaching since you can route to a lat/lon position.
