Shipping to Canada

I just had 2 packages sent to Canada from the US.

One was sent with regular post and I paid the $5.50 brokerage fee and then GST on both the value of the item and brokerage fee. It took 2 weeks and there was no tracking number.

The other was sent via UPS and I paid a $40 brokerage fee and then GST on everything. It took 4 days and had a tracking number.

Next time, I'm using regular post.... :bang:

Ahhh, young Grasshopper...you have learned valuable lesson...

Never, never, never, never, never use UPS for cross-border shipments. They're absolute crooks.

Been there, done that, learned my lesson years ago...

If you call UPS on the day your item is shipped, and ask them to let you broker it yourself, they should let you. I did that when I ordered a Rhinoskin case from Saunders. It involves filling out some paperwork and running to the customs office in the airport, but you save about $40 for about 90 minutes of your time.

Then again, I hate UPS. I prefer regular post or Fedex.

Be sure they can be cleared at the customs port in your city. I'd have to go to Montreal (from Ottawa) to clear something myself, if it were shipped UPS. That's what UPS told me at the time (years ago), but it may have changed in the interim.
