There are 2 and 3 GB CF cards too. But be prepared to shell out over $2500 for the 3 GB card!!!

There is a $20 rebate on a SanDisk 256 MB CompactFlash at Amazon.com

The total is around $80 or so.

I'm still amazed that they even tried to make a CF hard drive, much less got it to work. 3600 rpm.
It wasn't too long ago the 350 Mb MD was like $600 US.
If they can perfect the technology, there's going to be 50Gb micro-array cards soon. See the Scientific American site.

I'm a newbie to Pocket PCs, Microdrives, Digital Cameras and the lot. I've never owned a PDA, but feel the need to help spur on the economy. ;)

Can the Dell Axim use a 1GB IBM Microdrive? I bought a Microdrive for my digital camera from www.d-store.com for $279.00, but was wondering if I could use it in the Axim.

If not, any recommendations as far as size of data card I might want to consider.

I travel internationally two to three weeks at a time as a pilot. I plan to upload MP3s to the Axim, as well as use some of the MS Pocket programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Money) and an electronic logbook to track my flightime.

Thanks for the help,

Yahtz

Yes, you can use it. There are several people on here using them. Only downside is they drain your battery a little faster.

I think the 1gb micro-drive is the best deal. If I needed that much capacity I would buy one without hesitation. Until the CF prices come down it's the best 1 gig per your buck. I think I will buy one once my 170 starts to fill up.

I am curently using a 170mb microdrive on my Axim. It never worked with my Handera 330, but seems to work just fine with my Axim. You can hear the drive spin up when accessed. It sounds cool!! I don't know how much of an effect it has on battery power, but since I have a spare battery it really isn't an issue.

I'm not sure which one of the 1gb micro-drives is the best fit for the Axim. There are more of them than I though there were.

Does anyone know?

Yes, it will work and with 1GB you can put more than MP3s on there, you could fit quite a few movies!! B) But be sure to bring your AC adapter!

How is the microdrive for speed compared to solid state memory (CF and SD)? Does anyone have any experience watching movies or listening to MP3's from this type of storage device??
