Which Bluetooth card?
Is there a Bluetooth Card that is particularly appropriate for the Dell Axim? Or can I use any?

My delivery date has been pushed back to 14/4/03 so I have cancelled my order with Dell...
Did a quick search round the net and came up with the Ambicom BT CF Card on a special offer.
Add Bluetooth capability to any PDA with a CF slot, or a laptop with a PC Card slot.
was £89.98 now only £52.99!
That price is ex-VAT but similar to the DELL price and they had it ex-stock for delivery tomorrow, so I went for it.
There is a few threads on here about BT adapters, and there is at least one who has the Ambicon CF working without problems.

Hope that helps, will try and remember to post once I get it :)

FYI
I bought a Blue Monkey BT connectivity pack (CF card and PCMCIA adaptor) from Expansys for £69 (ex vat).
Works a treat on the Axim (not so well on my lappie), and have had no probs getting it talking to my nokia or my HP 995c.
Ordered it on 18th March, it arrived on the 20th. Splendid price and service.
They also do BT USB adaptors far cheaper than anywhere else.

Well I got the Ambicom and it works ok as a link to the phone (6310i) but does not offer a bluetooth serial connection (at least I haven't found it yet).
I am thinking of sending it back cause the main reason I went BT was to access the phone AND sync with my work laptop using BT :(
So unless someone can come up with a way of getting it to provide a BT serial link it is going to be returned (or ebay'ed) Monday/Tuesday
Does the Bluemonkey one provide a serial service ??

Here's a FIX for those Bluetooth users using the WIDCOMM Stack (Billionton, Bluetake, Brainboxes, CC&C BT CF Cards).
Download
the driver.
Steps in installation..
1) Plug in Bluetooth Card
2) Install the Driver (run setup.exe) - make sure it's installed on RAM.
3) Download a REGISTRY EDITOR for PPC
4) Set
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BtConfig\SerialTransport\Port
make sure it's "7"
5) Soft Reset your PPC and enjoy :)
Also works on the A02 DELL's.

hmmmm, the WIDCOMM serial support definitely works, I tried it with the Socket Bluetooth GPS (which uses the serial port profile) and was able to use it with MAPOPOLIS.
Are you talking about ActiveSync Serial Port? that works too.. You just need to make sure ActiveSync is set to the Server Com Port on the PC - then make sure you untick the encryption on that Server Com port service - works..

Immaterial now I have sent the card back...but...
The server displayed Serial in its available services, the Axim only displayed Object Push however. There was no option within the Ambicom software to alter the services other than start/stop an ftp server on the Axim.
There are instruction on the Ambicom website on how to connect the bluetooth card to Activesync, but they were of no use as every thing it pointed to was not there on my Axim, I came to the conclusion they had been written for some over PPC.
Shame realy.
Anyway, as I have mentioned, I have shipped the card back, and bought a USB travel sync/charger combo lead of Ebay for 9.99 (UKP) delivered.
Should be here tomorrow so I can finally sync my work machine to my axim again!

Hmmm, I don't think the Bluetooth Neighbor BT stack supports the serial port profile..
The WIDCOMM does though..

The document here describes how to connect via Bluetooth to your PC to use Activesync over BT, but sadly it didnt work.

The link is dead for the driver. I have just bought a brainboxes cf and pcmcia adaptor so could someone please mail or repost the driver?
Many thanks

I have found another copy of the file located here:
http://freepak.free.fr/utilitaires/CFBTCE-N.zip
However, it doesn't seem to work with Dell Axim x51v devices. The name of the driver is called BTW-CE. I am looking for an updated driver right now.
