Well, SD cards aren't exactly "new products"... but it certainly is a new price.
This week, Radio Shack has advertised in their national mailer 128 meg SanDisk memory cards for $49.95!
When I went to the store, they "didn't have them in stock" but interestingly, there were two blank spaces with all their memory cards.
I have noticed in the past that with many RS stores, if the home company advertises something at a price so low that they don't want to sell, they just remove it from the shelf and claim they are "out of stock."
No problem. Just ask for a raincheck. They have to give you one. If they claim they don't give rainchecks, ask them for the telephone number of the home office, mentioning offhand that you can find out how soon they are going to be "shipped their supply" of memory cards. That should get them to hopping, because home office doesn't like dealers going against their advertising.
Then too, remember that there are many other stores that honor competitor prices so long as the price is nationally advertised. So if you happen to have gotten one of the Radio Shack ads in the mail... there ya go.
Me, I bought one JUST TO DO SYSTEM BACKUP. I already had a 256meg card, but it's nice to have a 128 to keep a quick backup on hand. And at fifty bucks... that's pretty cheap insurance!

Costco Warehouse in the Atlanta area (possibly other areas as well) also has a fantastic price on 128 mb SD cards. Just bought a couple for $49.99. And they DO have them in stock. This is about $10 less than I have seen them anywhere else.

Yeah, but SanDisk SD memory cards are junk. See the poll on this sight about their reliability (according to the pole, at least about a third of them have major problems). Mine stopped working completely and won't show any available memory no matter what I do or how many programs I try to reformat it. I would pay the extra money for another brand, all of which seem fine.
I just ordered a new Axim from Dell yesterday. I was going to purchase the SD card seperatly from some mail order place. But, Dell's price on a 256 Meg SD card was only $69!!!!! Hard to beat!
I picked up a Lexar 256MB for $70, especially hard to beat because it's not a Sandisk.
Anyone seriously considering buying a Sandisk 128 or 256MB SD card for use in an Axim should learn how to search this site as well as the places like http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums?category.id=AximTech and http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=60 among others for the word Sandisk. After reading the numerous complaints and polls, if you're still seriously considering a Sandisk SD, smack yourself up the side of your head...HARD!:rolling:

I too purchased a Lexar 256 SD for $70. I think that included shipping and I received it in two days flat! The prices on this stuff fluctuates wildly sometimes so it pays to price shop.

I honestly don't know what to think of the situation with Sandisk cards. Like I said, I had a 128 that flaked out once (I didn't loose any data, it just didn't detect it a few times) but the two Sandisk cards I have now work fine. The 256MB Sandisk SD card I have is loaded with data and hasn't had a single problem, and the 256MB Sandisk CF card has about 30MB of stuff and still works great. Not only that, but I pull the card out and put it in all the time.
The way I see it, if a Sandisk card works then great, be happy. If not, well, there's no reason I'd automatically write off Sandisk, but I can understand why you wouldn't want to use them again. Perhaps there was a bad batch of cards in the channel or something. Who knows.
You are right Snickerdo... I used a SanDisk compact flash heavily for about three years in my camera without a problem then gave the camera to a friend who is still using it today in his business. There seems to have been some problems using "some" of the SanDisk branded SD's in the Axim PDA's. Maybe it's a problem on SanDisk's production line that affected only a certain number of sd's or perhaps it's a hiccup in the Axim. When I ordered my sd the other day I purposely didn't order a SanDisk but instead ordered a Lexar. I would have preferred a SanDisk because they were cheaper but decided to go Lexar to avoid a "potential" problem. If I had a SanDisk sd that was working fine, I sure wouldn't get rid of it though. One bad apple on the tree doesn't mean all the apples are bad. Now if those 512 MB sd's will just come down to $35 we'll be in business. ;)

Hehe yeah. I paid Cdn$150 for my 256MB SD card a few months ago. I just bought the 256MB CF last week for Cdn$85. Prices are low now, it's real nice. SD prices are even lower, but I can't expect to get the cheapest price every time.
I see 512MB cards have dropped below Cdn$225. I might have to buy one of them, too :)
Also been using SanD CF cards in my camera for almost 2 years, never a problem.
Just received my SanD 256mb SD card a couple of weeks ago - no hitches whatsoever, so looks like some of us are luckier tahn others.
My sandisk 256 SD card has corrupted my data I am just finding out now. It is also painfully slow writing to the card...read speeds are about the same, but writes are out of whack...something is definately wrong.
The big headache is trying to format the card...it keeps giving me a write protection error, even though write protection is off. I had to try 10 times till it finally accepted a format command.
