Emailed to people who placed an order for the mis-priced axims.

Dear Customer,

Dell Canada strives to ensure the most positive Dell experience for each of its customers.
Recently, an error was made on dell.ca that caused the customer experience to be
less positive than we would like.

On the evening of April 4, 2003, we posted pricing for the sale of our Axim X5 handheld
units on our web site that was in error. While the advertised prices for these units
were clear and correct, data entry issues elsewhere on our web site applied a price
to the units that was an obvious error. On the morning of April 5, we discovered
the error and began taking active steps to resolve it. By the morning of April 7,
we were able to resolve the error completely. However, before the error was resolved
completely many of you acted and placed orders.

At Dell Canada, we place the highest priority on customer care and apologize for
any actions that may result in inaccuracies on our web site. As mentioned in our
previous e-mail to you, we regret that we cannot honor the pricing that temporarily
appeared to be available on dell.ca.

However, we do understand that this error may have caused you some inconvenience.
As a result, we would like to make it up to you by presenting you with a goodwill
offer on our Axim X5 handheld units. This goodwill offer provides you
with a $50 reduction off the regular price of $379 for each 300C unit and $150 reduction
off the regular price of $549 for each 400C unit (exclusive of shipping and applicable taxes)
in the event you still wish to place your order.

To receive this time limited offer, please respond to this e-mail by 5 p.m.
on Monday, April 14th and a Dell representative will contact you to book your
Axim purchase under this goodwill offer. (Limit of one unit per original unit
ordered – no exceptions. This offer is not combinable with any other discounts or promotions.)

Again, Dell Canada apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this error and looks forward
to your continued support as a Dell customer. If you have any further questions,
please call 1-800-847-4096 or e-mail us at CA_Canadacs@Dell.com .

It drops it to US$266 (against $366)
Dell US is currently offering the 400 at $314, but with a memory card.

I certainly intend to take advantage of it.

Dell Canada hasn't really offered any deals since soon after the Axim came out, so this is likely a one-shot deal.

Free shipping would be nice, but I can live with it. I would have been happy with a $50 rebate.

I've sent in my response earlier this morning, and expect to have a confirm in the next couple of days.

Maybe if enough people do buy one at this price, Dell Canada might realize that it they LOWERED THEIR CANADIAN PRICES that more people would be interested. I would expect that any duties would be covered be shipping costs, not buy charging for shipping plus a huge premium over the US price.

My only concern, which only just occured to me, is that they'll send out refurbished or older models. They may have a bit of a surplus of these.

hey canoe guy,

i think that they have to tell you that its refurbished, and it should say on you invoice that its refurbished. i also heard that they put an orange sticker on the unit itself so if you see an orange sticker its refurbished. and one more thing it would say refurbished on the box so you don't even have to open the box.... so i have been told though. so did dell reply back to you taking them up on thier "goodwill" offer???

Dell Canada does charge the full tax based on where the order is being shipped to. Oh to have a shipping address in Alberta :-) My (Ontario based) experience is that most online retailers only charge the full sales tax when delivering within their province, si I try and order from out of province when I can.

I did take advantage of the Dell offer and order one, after being assured by the sales rep that it was a new one, although he wasn't really sure about the chip. Originally I wasn't going to order until after my tax refund, but I'd rather save the $150 now.

The full order 400, extra battery, 2 yr warranty, shipping, taxes came to $692.30 - about US $461.50, (Dell US website cost is $457 before taxes and shipping costs, but free car charger)

The downside is that they requested my original order number from the misprice(which I had), but it limits the offer to peole who had ordered. I hope enough people do order it that Dell Canada decides to lower their initial price.

And black_j, the Dell rep got back to me a few hours after I'd confirmed that I would take it, sooner that I was expecting.
