My mini-review:
I have one and though I still think its a cool device I have mixed feelings about it...
The first one I bought was from buy.com. I had problems with it RIGHT away. I couldn't get it to work under the following operating systems: Windows 2000, MacOS9 and MacOSX. The device claimed to be right protected. I must have taken the SD Card in and out 20-30 times before it started to let me write stuff to it. And, yes, I had checked the little lock on the card itself.
It finally started to work and so I copied a bunch of mp3's onto it. The next day, I deleted a bunch of stuff off of it and copied some other stuff onto it. Then, I started to get write errors. Those stopped and then I decided to delete everything off of it. I checked the available space on the unit and though it should read 241mb free (on a 256mb card), it claimed that there were over 100mb in use!
Being new to Pocket PC's but not technology (I've supported Windows server and desktop technology for years), I called SanDisk Tech Support to describe the problems. I was told there wasn't anything I could really do except return it - it either works or it doesn't.
I bought a replacement one at pcmall.com. This one seems to be working just fine with one exception. The Cruzer device's usb connector (which retracts into the body when not in use), won't clear the outer edge of the case when I go to extend it! I have to use the stylus to give it just a little nudge so that it clears. At this point, though the device otherwise works - Cruzer and SD Card.
I do have one more complaint. Apparently, SanDisk changed the little case that was included with the Cruzer. The first one I got had a cool little form fitting stretchy case with a keychain clip on it. That's neat. The second one came with just a crappy little faux velvet pouch with drawstrings and no keychain clip. At least the second one has room for the little extender cable which you will need in certain situations. At some point, I may try my hand at making something along the lines of the first but with someway to hold the little extender cable.
Despite all of that, I am relatively happy with the Cruzer. From my desktops, I can copy mp3's VERY QUICKLY onto the SD Card and then just pop it into the Axim. Trying to copy that many mp3's over the slow cradle is PAINFUL.
I imagine that at some point I could pop open the case on the Cruzer and make a minor little adjustment on the usb connector so that it clears the case. Right now I'm just happy it works but the gee wiz factor went right into the crapper after the series of headaches and little annoying issues I've seen. In addition, you may want to look at posts regarding SanDisk reliability or lackthereof. It seems many have had problems with their SD cards. The device comes with a 2 year warranty and with my problems with the first I figure I've been pre-disastered. ;)
