I'm new to wireless internet as well as the Axim. Can someone suggest the best method for wireless internet capabilities at home? I currently have a cable modem sevice and ethernet card on my desktop.

1) What hardware accessories and additional software do I need for the Axim?
2) What hardware and software do I need for the cable modem and for the desktop?
3) What kind of range will I have (5 feet, 10 feet, 5 city blocks, 1 mile, etc.)?

Thanks, Jeraxim

There are several options.

1. An aircard. Not sure if they are availlable for PDA/Axim, but it's basicly a cellphone that gives you access anywhere.

2. Bluetooth. A point-to-point solution (=from axim to desktop computer). Short range, a couple of meters maximum. They say it's the promise for the future.

3. Wifi or 802.11b. This is what I use. You buy a basestation that connects to you home connection and a compact flash card for the axim. You can roam with your axim up to 30m indoors and up to 300m outdoors. This is also the technology used for hotspots. So most starbucks and airports have it.

Hope it helps you a bit.

Simple $80 wireless home network

I bought a D-Link DCF-660W at best buy for $79 will get a rebate of $40, this is good till 2-1-03 i think. And a Compaq USB Wireless Networking Adaptor for $39 at Best Buy also. There are other simple units made by other companys Belkin D-link Linksys and others, but I bought the Comapq because it was the cheapest. I had bought a wireless D-Link cable modem router but never was able to set it up. I have a dial up connection no DSL in my area. I set the units to do whats called Peer to peer and everything works great. If you what to add more computers you can buy another adaptor but if you plan to add several computers and they have network cards already in them like most new ones do it would be cheaper to buy a router.
