CompuSmart policies
I had the same difficulty securing a CF wi-fi card here in Montreal, and ended up buying a Linksys WCF12 from CompuSmart in store for $119.00 & taxes , as I didn't want to wait the wait with e-shopping (although with eCost I could have had it for $118canadian, shipping duty and tax included).
First of all, the CompuSmart (in-store) receipt clearly indicates "no refund, all sales final". There is a bunch of small print (restocking charges, open box, etc) for on-line orders, so read carefully.
Secondly, they do not honor their price match guarantee - I went in with 2 e-shopping ads, in Canadian funds, which including shipping & taxes came out cheaper than CompuSmart's price. The clerk and asst-manager refused to honor thier policy, coming up with a multitude of excuses, some making no sense whatsoever. Strike 1
Also, the 'in-store' price listed on their website (when you use the 'buy in store' links) is not the actual price: the website listed the WCF12 at $119.00 for in-store OR web purchases, when I showed up in store the sticker was at $129.00. I had to argue my point for a good 15 minutes with the clerk, pointing out that $119 is their advertised price, store and web. Finally they took the $10 off, but what a headache! Strike 2
And to finish, I wrote them to complain about not honoring their own store price policy, and explained the situation. I received a nice reply, that the store manager & president will be forwarded my email and to expect an answer from them...well, that answer never came, I wrote them a 2nd email, that too has gone ignored. You guessed it, strike 3.
So, not only did they lose my business after only 1 sale, but they have also lost my potential future business, and all the positive word of mouth referrals I would have made. DO I have a beef with them: ya, if you decide to implement 'best price & service or we'll match it' to ensure full customer satisfaction, and then choose to ignore the customer and not respect anything that the policy states, I find that to be very misleading to the consumer, and it is becomes gross misrepresentation on their part.
So my word to the wise is to be aware of what's out there, shop around, and read the policies carefully.
Buyer beware! You can find better deals elsewhere, and hopefully they will be more geared to keeping a clinet happy.
Ok, l vented ...phew!
