Random thoughts about the HTC Advantage

The HTC Advantage is the most powerful Windows Mobile device available.

The HTC Advantage will not fit in your pocket.

WM6 is focused on the phone functions without dumbing down the PDA functions.

Somebody needs to come out with a belt-clip case for this thing. I'd like one with a pouch for the keyboard.

Microsoft needs to make a bid on coreplayer. coreplayer supports more streaming formats, file containers, codecs, and file formats than any other mobile media player software available today.

This puppy is expensive.

More later...

The Advantage screen is as wide in Portrait mode as the X50v is in Landscape.

The WMP in the WM6 OS still doesn't support enough video codecs for my needs.

What would/could picard do with this screen real estate?

Are you using the Advantage as your everyday phone? (just curious :) )

I have an AT&T 8525 which I am passing to my son (age 21) when I replace it with the Tilt/8925.

I have been watching the reviews/info on the Advantage and Shift with interest. I don't think I'd want to use either as an every day phone but one would be nice to have.......... (do I REALLY need to have a reason other than I like gadgets??

I do have an unlimited data plan with AT&T (so that wouldn't be an issue)

The larger screen size would be nice (duh)

Recently my home wireless was zapped by lightening (dsl modem and router got hit) so my family (4 kids) had to wait for another dsl modem to be shipped (we were able to get online via a neighbor's wireless, with their permission, and a weak signal).... but I was able to use my 8525 to connect ..... VERY frustrating to have 4 laptops and a desktop and no connection!! I wished I had an advantage then!!! (and I think my husband, who is not computer/technical savvy would have asked me to write down the details of the Advantage...and would have gone "in search of one" if I had not been able to get online through a neighbor )

The advantage has WM...the Shift has Vista .... (I kinda prefer WM)

so.....do I "need" one????

I carry the Advantage along with a Treo 700w everyday. One of the truly neato things I've found out is the the Plantronics Pulsar 590e bluetooth stereo headphones I use will let me listen to music on the Advantage using WMP or Coreplayer and stop the music when a call comes in on the Treo or vice-versa, let me answer the call, then go back to the music.

But honestly the Treo is still my primary phone. There are some situations where the Advantage is just to big to carry. I haven't tried this dual pairing thing with any smaller phones but I could see it working with something like a bluetooth equipped Razor as well.

Big Smile Phone via T-Mobile

I'm so glad to see this forum open up. I have been an Aximsite X50v fan for 3 years and had not been there much since buying my Advantage in late August at CompUSA (I got the price down a bit when I bought their extended warranty and haggled).

Let me say that I wanted the phone mainly for the wireless data capability and I found just the right solution at T-Mobile. For $39.99/mo you get unlimited data and phone calls are charged at 20 cents/minute. The price for this plan was just reduced from $49.99. Also included are 300 Text/Instant messages/mo and unlimited access at T-Mobile Hotspots - Think 'STARBUCKS' for starters! I understand that AT&T has a faster network but for twice the cost is it worth it?

I have AT&T....it's not twice the cost :)
Now if I would hurry up and order an Advantage I would be happy.
I have been gathering info/helpful articles.... and I am convinced I "need" one

Web quotations for SW Ohio at AT&T indicated That the $34.99 (20 MB data) and $44.99 (unlimited data) data plans required a phone plan also. The minimum phone plan seems to be $39.99 so splitting the difference in the data plans, I figured the minimum charge would be about $75 and I would have to ante up about $80/mo. I did verify this with a local At&t salesman. I did not bother to haggle with them when the minimum T-Mo plan seemed to suit me very well as I do not make many phone calls each month.

You said that you bought extended warranty, and got the Advantage cheaper. By how much?

compatibility with verizon or other networks?

since this appears to the be new axim replacement (ipaq 210s not until november - or even 2008?) and since i'm warily eyeing a smartphone, i'm wondering if the x7501 works with verizon.

and since i've never had to worry about an unlocked phone before, just how much of a pain in the backside would it be to get this (if it will run on verizon's network) to work?

and of course, since i'm looking for an excuse to pick up a new carrier anyhow, who _does_ support it currently? i've looked at AT&T, T-Mobile, and verizon, none of 'em list it as an option on their websites.
