HTC Advantage Accessories (Cases)

The HTC Advantage comes with one of the better leather cases ever shipped stock with a PDA but I'm looking for something a bit more functional/Geeky. I put in an order for this aluminum case earlier today. What do you think? click on the thumbnails for a larger image:

bought one of these off ebay, back in july $28 to the door, in under a week from hong kong to arizona.

plus - fits real good, light, sturdy

plus - keyboard folds back flat against back if you're not using it

minus - keyboard will need double sided tape or something to hold it in - its a press fit into a neoprene cutout, works fine 1st time you close/opent the case.. 2nd time the keyboard will be held to the unit by its magnets.

minus - no 'real' latch, relys on the keyboard magnets

minus - hinges are plastic, and when closed, the 'top' keyboard side has some slop, can move a little side to side.

big minus - all radio signals (gps, bluetooth, and wifi - I'm not using it as a phone) are probably 25% weaker when in the metal case.

I guess I'll have to wait for a nice thin leather case, with a real latch. (I dont like the thick clips on the stock one)

Thanks for the link to your gallery azcaddman. If nothing else it makes the Advantage looked Borged-Out.

I saw a different leather case for the Advantage on Cases.com. It actually looks a little bigger than the stock case to me because of the snap closure system.

yeah, i'll probably hold out for the Pielframa one, I've had their case before for my 4705, very nice, but not cheap.

I got the aluminum case today and I don't like it. Yeah it looks good but boy is the stylus hard to get out, and the keyboard is hard to get out once you snug it up to the bumper. The only positive thing I can say about it is it offers better protection than the leather case HTC includes with the Advantage because when closed less of your devices is exposed. Oh, one more plus is it looks really techy. :rolling:

This one is going in the case graveyard. You live and learn.

Other users who have used this have reported that it affects the signal strength. Do you find this to be true?

Well I didn't do any speed test or connect to Wi-Fi but when I connected to the internet I got my usual H icon for a HSDPA signal. Threads here loaded at their usual pace. I'll try to do a more comprehensive test later this weekend but just off-hand I'd say signal degradation isn't an issue.

I will not put out $69 for a case that has no belt clip per Piel Frama. I am hoping that Senacases.com will come out with one soon- an email from them says they plan to offer one. In the meantime, you can get one for $9.99 at Ebay New Genuine Leather Case For HTC Advantage X7500 X7501 - (eBay item 110174340089 end time Oct-02-07 21:46:33 PDT).
If the link does not work, Google, 'ebay x7501 case'. It has a belt clip. The knob that attaches to the case seems quite secure but I did not like the belt clip which failed to stay in a locked position. However, many other belt clips seem to work fine with it. I am using an old phone clip and somebody bought a pair of replacement clips at Verizon.

It looks good but the last time I bought anything "genuine leather" for under 10 dollars it statred flaking after a few months of use. Now this was something for in the pocket not on a beltclip but still...

It smells like a new pair of shoes! Workmanship seems very good as far as the leather is concerned. For <$20 you can surely take a flyer on it. As I said, it does allow you to attach it to your belt unlike Piel Frama and the included case.

I can't do it right now miterb. I'm in the process of setting up an apartment with my girlfreind and funds are a little tight right now. I might get one in January if they come back up for auction. Like I said it does look good and being on my belt is less stressful than being in my pocket.

I am hoping the Vaja case isn't TOO costly when it is announced. I have really enjoyed my 8525 case and zune case from them :)

the $10 case ($20 w/shipping) has the same plastic sides as the stock one.

The thing i liked about the peilframa one, is that those are gone, which should make the case not as thick/bulky

I like piel frama's wrap-around leather look. I bet they'd offer one with a belt clip if enough peopkle asked.
