Right now I don't use the phone/data capabilities of my Advantage, but I sure would like to. I remember talking to the AT&T salesman, and he said the data plan only (which is what I want) is $50/mo. I don't want it that badly. Are there less expensive options? How much data do I need? I would check email and do a bit of surfing only.
afaik, my data plan on att is $20 a month. you dont need the pda package, just the unlimited data connect plan. the only idfference is that your device will get a dynamic address and connect to a different wap with the cheaper service.
you can sign up online without the dumb salesman trying to tell you otherwise.
...note that if you add or change your plan, you "renew" or restart your contract.
after you sign up, just add a new connection in your connections manager as per the following settings
ap wap.cingular
user wap.cingulargprs.com
password CINGULAR1
make sure you set your connection as the preferred connection method instead of "work" and under proxy settings, check off "this connection connects to the internet"
i dont know the limit (or that there is one), and no, ive never gone "over" it... $20 is for "unlimited" network access. i stream slingplayer all the time to my TyTN and its over the att network not wifi. sync email and browse the internet all the time with opera. im not downloading dvds or on the p2p/bt network or anything, but i do use quite a bit of bandwidth every month for $20 :) constant weather updates with pocketweather, etc etc etc
This sounds like this could be just what I'd need. Steve, you're the salesguy...see if you can sweet-talk them into staff discounts.
Seriously, though, I'm with you. I'd like to have some data/phone capability without breaking the bank. My wife runs a business on the side, so I'd love to be able to honestly write it off since I help her with it, but probably not enough to "qualify".

In post number 3 I put a link to the plan I think you're talking about, JD, is that correct?
Thanks again for all the help. BTW, can I write off my data plan use for Mrs. Breley too?
Steve, you already have AT&T, right? I'm with Verizon, alas for my X7501.

I think I signed up for the wrong plan last month. It is the PDA Plan for $35.00/mo. I have no contract for the 7501, but do have a contract for my Blackberry 8800. Is is possible for me to do the same thing through my existing BB plan?
the crackberry plans are different. im pretty sure that plan enables the same access to the att dynamic wap servers, just with bb permissions added on.
if you change to the smartphone unlimited plan youll reinitiate your contract... just an fyi
yes, it will work with any windows mobile smartphone and pocket pc device.
this service plan gives you unlimited access to the internet with a dynamic ip.
the more expensive pda connect unlimited or laptop connect unlimited ($$) plans give you a static address, but cost much more. you attach to a different wap server, but the service (speed and reliability) is the same from what i understand
jd :approve:

I remember months ago when I bought a blackberry for my wife, that the AT&T guy said if I bought the smartphone plan AT&T would be able to find out, then they'd charge me for the pda data plan. Was the guy full of it?
