Not a lot of activity here, which I believe is a good sign. People just using their device, which is performing as it should.
I am thinking of getting a replacement for the plastic pen that comes with the 7501, and was wondering if anyone has tried the Boxwave stylus/pen combo.
I've mulled over the idea myself, but $10 seems kind of steep to me for one. I'm tempted to try this style from ebay for 3 styli. Size appears to be exactly the same as the native stylus.

Boxwave styluses, cradles, etc, per my experience with them, are excellent. Have purchased much from them as well as buying from reputable vendors on Ebay for cheaper cost!!
I think I actually read somewhere (xda?) about those stylus. If I remember, delivery took forever, and 1 was broken. Seller was unreachable. It was too little money for the buyer to really do anything more.
You probably right concerning activity levels being low there's
contentment in Advantage land-that is if you haven't bricked it
over at XDA.
I posted a query about the 4 in 1 cable with no response.
I picked one up then got a 4gb thumbdrive and mainly use
it to back up the 7501 in case I have to hard reset.
I dunno. I think that it's so quiet because no one has bought the product, or is planning to buy the new one given the cost issues, and the poor graphics performance. I was going to be all over the 7510 until I learned more about it.
I don't know about anyone else, but I've been a super-happy advantage owner since the beginning! I hate Rogers in my area, so I have ignored the phone capabilities and Love:love: my advantage x7500. It goes everywhere with me, and on a recent trip to Korea, it was my camera, e book reader (100's of them on 3 programs), working computer, (where my 7" UMPC laptop went belly-up), communication with home- Msn messenger, email, skype, all worked fantastically and solid!
I think that there isn't any activity because it justworks. I had a seat-mate (Korean), that pulled out 3 cell-phones, a tiny Polaroid camera out of her huge slouch-bag, and I stopped reading-turned my advantage to her and took pictures of her! The wireless just works- even if I couldn't find free access points in airports- it still saw them.
So to all the detractors out there- if you haven't tried it- don't knock it! :rolling:
I must also chime in - the Advantage rocks! I pre-ordered mine on Amazon.com. I was one of those early adopters that got the pre-release ROM and had to flash the production one. That was minor and HTC customer support was outstanding.
This device is really targeted at power users that had Axim X50/51's. Yeah, I was one of those guys. I kept modding my Ax and wishing that Dell would come out with a follow-on device. Dell faultered, but HTC came through.
Having earned my wings on the X50v, configuring my X7501 was a breeze. I've had it well over a year and NEVER had to hard reset the thing. I have it packed with software, music, videos. It kicks butt with my slingbox. My old travel mouse and folding keyboard work flawlessly.
One of the guys on my job recently commented that he's never seen me keep a device as long as my Advantage. I hadn't thought about it, but he's right. Over the past 5 or 6 years, I haven't kept a cell phone or PDA for more than a few months. I've always gone for the newest, coolest, most powerful gadget I could find. That's why I still have my X7501. It's what the iPhone will be when it finally grows up.
I use my Advantage EVERY day. It has never let me down. The Advantage just works. It's a powerhouse. It's reliable. That's it.

I dunno. I think that it's so quiet because no one has bought the product, or is planning to buy the new one given the cost issues, and the poor graphics performance. I was going to be all over the 7510 until I learned more about it.
What graphics issue are you talking about? I have my avi's running in core player, of my young horse working (walk- trot- canter)- tons of movement and no lag! The VGA screen is crisp and clear and all my books are in clear type- my pictures are great... where is the problem? AGAIN- the only sour messages seem to be from the people that [U]haven't[U] bought one!
Well, what I came across on the Advantage was this - that video performance was relatively poor (inferior to Axim 51 or HX4700) because the device did not make use of its Imageon chip due to lack of appropriate graphics drivers.
So, it scared me off. I was going to buy this thing =it looks beautiful and has just the right form factor for me, but given the cost I can't just "take a chance" on the video performance, which is key for me.
Is there any way you could benchmark your Advantage using Coreplayer?
no, Sorry- I don't know how to do that, and I really don't have the time to learn- too busy riding my horses and reading and figuring out other computer issues. I have had no problem moving my avi raw files (for bragging), to my storage card, and then running them on core player- and they play with no lags. I do agree with a statement that WMplayer is terrible, but it is for most. the Advantage goes with me everywhere- and runs all day reading or what ever I want to do. As far as I'm concerned- it is the best of both worlds and if you are lucky enough to be in a metropolitan area- a great phone too. As I said- on my trip, it was my mainstay- kept me connected, MSN, email, skype, my camera, music, books, and all my travel information. I took a 7" netbook... that had problems, and the Advantage just always worked!
Its trivial to do that. No learning curve at all, I promise.
If you are using coreplayer, start up the video you want to watch, select MENU, then TOOLS, then BENCHMARK. It will start up the video and run it in full screen. The video may sound weird because it will played at different speed than normal (it may fluctuate as it speeds and slows the play rate).
After a few minutes stop the benchmark by tapping the screen. You will see a series of numbers,
Average speech
Video frames
Audio samples
Amount of Data
Benchmark frame rate
benchmark sample rate
benchmark data rate
....
That last one is the key. What's your benchmark data rate? You can just screencopy the page and post it.
I bought a mostly metal stylus online at ebay that is a lot better than the stock stylus. It was $2.99 for the stylus and $2.99 for shipping. It arrived in one to two weeks as the seller said in good condition. The only thing I did not notice is the cap for the pen is about 40% of the stylus. This means an already small stylus becomes an even smaller pen. I am getting another stylus because I want a bigger pen for my rather large "meat hooks". I thought the Axim had a rather small (narrow) aftermarket stylus/pen (I used to have a Palm Tungsten with a aftermarket stylus/pen); but the X7510 has proved otherwise.
For the price you can not beat the stylus on ebay, and if you do not mind a tiny pen, this is the stylus to get.
