Storing information on MicroSD Card
Hi
I just baught 8525, and ordered kingston 1gb memory card. I have few questions
1. Is it possible to store all the contact information as well as the picture id associated with the contacts on the memory card?
2. Is it possible to install all other programs in the memory card?

If the answer is yes, then please explain the steps.

Thanks in advance.

You can install apps to the memory card, but I'd not do it.. many apps, especially today screen apps complain about that.

To install apps there, use Activesync and uncheck install to default, then it will prompt you.

Some apps have options to install portions to mem cards, some apps autodetect the card, some apps need registry hacks.

There are a few applications like MemMaid that will do all the dirty work for you.

I don't believe you can store contacts on the card, but most apps wil let you install them on the card. A good rule of thumb is to keep today plugin in main memory just for performance, but you may find some of those work fine on the card, too.

Make frequent backups and be willing to install programs a few times to find the best fit for you.

What the other two guys said.

In my experience, it's pretty much dependent on what app you're trying to install where it should go. For example, I use Cash Organizer 2007, but I will only install it on my storage card. It's a storage hog. And since I like to keep my main memory clear as much as possible, that's where it goes.

Generally speaking, if you put a program on a storage card, it will go slower too. There is a definite performance difference between the two. I notice it quite a bit in the load time of Cash Organizer, as well as other apps I use.

There's a third option which I am finding works out quite nicely for me. However, it is NOT for the feint of heart, and you WILL void your warranty by doing it. But, basically it involves unhiding and unlocking your extension ROM. After my most recent hard reset, I began installing the apps I use that have/are Today plugins into the extension ROM, and I've noticed better overall performance.

Cheers!
