Thanks! I got my new 8525 on Thursday (which is why I haven't posted much the last 36 hours)

I am going to try out the Spb mobile shell and phone suite. I don't think I need mobile shell. I-Launcher accomplishes most of that...... we shall see!

I didn't make any tweaks to the registry. I don't want to void my warranty.

So far, so good... I am loving my new toy (phone)!!

Reg edits will not void your waranty. regardless of how bad you screw it up, a hard reset will fix it.

You will eventually get tired of the AT&T splashscreen when reseting :-)

Worried

I couldn't wait for my contract with cingular (ATT) to be up. I opted for an unlocked Cingular 8525 from ebay.

I can't wait. I should be getting it in 3 days.

I loved the axim x51v so much, i don't know how i'll convert, but can you tell me a fews things that i need to do in order to adjust to the new device.

Any advice will help.

Thanks.

It looks as if you are an expert here on the 8525. Please don't get me wrong, but i guess you'd be someone i can rely to for advice.

I'm going to be getting the Cingular 8525 in a couple of days. It's unlocked. I have cingular service, but i couldn't wait for my contract to be up. And i don't feel like signing up for another 2 years. I hate that feeling. i don't think i have another choice here b/c in the US it's only ATT or TMoblie. And i don't really care for TMOBILE.

So if you can please just list some of things i should consider. I will be watching this post for more advice.

Thank you in advance.

ps. as for your mentioning of the .cab files? How does that work? do you have to be computer program literate? I don't know if i am much, but i do have some back ground in C, C++, basic, but that's the extent of my software knowledge.

and b/c i haven't used it in a long time i have to refresh my memory.

.cab files are the PPC equivalent of self-extracting installers. Even the full PC installer routine just copies the cab to the PPC via activesync and executes it. I just prefer to have the cab files on hand in case I need to re-install for some reason.

having trouble with active sync.

Now i know i want it to sync with my previous active sync name. But the phone name is HTC_TyTN how can i change that?

I would like for the sync to go through w/ my previous device name.

Thanks in advance.

new icon... very simple

"Internet Sharing"

BTW, it will also work over BT as well. I was going to post a tutorial on this, but it is so simple to do...
