8525 or 8125
Which to choose?
Cingular has the 8525 for 400, might be able to get it for 380 locally after rebate, or the 8125 refurb for 50.
I had a sony-ericsson t37, lost it last friday. My PDA is an Axim X30H. Its getting older and less reliable.
Suggestions? HTC seems to be a cool company with many prospective products.

8525 uses 3g which allows simultaneous voice and data, which the 8125 doesn't.

I'd get the refurb for 50, play with it. If it doesn't meet your expectations, upgrade to the 8525 and sell the 8125 or keep it as a spare

The refurb 8125's in my area are still over $150. Are you geting this refurb from an authorized dealer?

The 50 dollar price is the upgrade price. So if I go for that one I would not be able to upgrade again for some time.

I just checked the rebate terms, i guess for either unit the rebate depends on a data plan subscription

If you plan on hacking the hell out of it, the 8125 seems to be a littel more hacker friendly.. but, the 8525 is getting better about being hacker friendly too.. I personally say go for the 8525.. Either that, or hold off completely, get a cheap Go Phone to use in the interim, and wait for some of the newer devices that are coming out.. Of course, the waiting is the hardest part..

if it is tied to a subscription, then I'd get the 8525. In fact that is exactly what I did. The data plan is a necessary tool, it makes the device far more functional

I bought the 8125 in December and used it for 2 months and then sold it on ebay and bought an 8525. I think the differences are pretty significant. I might appreciate the 8525 MORE since I used the 8125 first, but knowing what I know now I would jump to the 8525 and skip the 8125. I found I could buy the 8525 CHEAPER on ebay without a contract than I could upgrade with Cingular. Bought my 8525 on Ebay for 400.00 and the upgrade with Cingular after rebates, taxes and upgrade fee was going to run me about 440.00 I think. Buying on ebay I did not have to pay taxes or upgrade fee. And my phone was eligible for warranty thru square trade....granted it was about 45.00 but that guarantees repair or refund for 2 years. Cingular warranty was only one year. So for a total of 5.00 more that Cingular I got no contract and a warranty twice as long as theirs.
