Am I missing something, or is there no simple way to switch from silent to normal, etc?

apart from just turning the volume down... er.. no

I'm playing with some apps to do this.. Phonealarm, PocketZenphone and PocketPhoneProfiles

they will also do clever things like switch based on time.. and Phone alarm will also track costings..

I haven't made up my mind yet, so if you have any opinions i'd be glad to hear them

I just realized something that I had missed...

If you press the lower button on the right side of the phone and click the speaker icon, it switches from speaker (ring) to vibrate. For me, that's enough. I either want it to ring, or vibrate, that's it.

Funny thing as I have been to that screen many times for wifi, but never really explored.

or if you think the lower touch screen button is too tiny, you can press comm manager button (next to the power button) and you can switch vibrate/ringer there.
