Getting Wireless on my 8525
Hello All,

Just recently i purchased an unlocked Cingular 8525 with a WM6 ROM. I have heard that this was probably an upgrade that was not by Cingular, but was available for the HTC family phones.

None the less, the WM6 is a great upgrade, as far as i can tell. I do like the interface and i would recommed anyone asking to switch. But for the Cingular 8525 there isn't an offical download

But right now i'm having trouble connecting to the interview via wifi. I've done the main configurations, input the network key. i see it's got good signal strength.

But when i start PIE, i get the main page, but nothing after.

If i do a search, it'll say searching and it'll wait that's all.

I am able to get on the internet using EDGE by itself, (BTW, it comes up as 3G, but i know i have unlimited media package, it says E next to the bars)

Also what's the best way to connect my 8525 using it as a modem. I tried to do it on my computer which is running XP and it tries to connected i see the bubble regarding connection, and then it'll say the party at the other end has disconnected.

Any tips and advice welcomed, if you have tweaks that you recommend please let me know. Thank you

I am surfing via my 8525 plugged into my home PC.

Connect the USB cord, disconnect activesync, start internet sharing on 8525.... and away you go.

It MIGHT ask for an RNDIS driver on the PC, which you can DL from HTC.

It will act as a network card as far as the PC is concerned.

I'm in an EDGE area at home...

I posted a fix on Cingular/AT&T forum. That is the biggest complaint about wireless not working. Here is the fix at least for the Cingular branded phones.

I have posted it before and I will post it again. Just make these simple changes and you will use wireless and not GPRS. Undo the change and GPRS will work again.

1. Start -> Settings

2. Select the Connections tab.

3. Click on the Connections icon.

4. Click on the Advanced tab.

5. Click on the Select Networks box.

6. The top setting is what the browser will use to connect to the Internet. After the ROM upgrade mine is set to "Media Net". You now have three choices, A, B or C.

A. Use this if you will never get a data plan to permanently disable GPRS dialup.

1. With "Media Net " in the window, click on the Edit Box.

2 On the next screen, tap and hold on "Media Net" and slecet delete. You will not be able to use GPRS unless you create the "Media Net dialup entry again.

B. Edit the My ISP setup.

1. Select "My ISP" in the top box and press theEdit box.

2. Tap and hold on Cingular GPRS and select delete.

3. When you what to use wireless, use the "My ISP" connection setup. When you want to use GPRS, use the "Media Net" connection setup.

C. The change I made. Create a new connection setup.

1. Press the New box.

2. Enter a name for the new connection setting. I used "Wireless Internet". All other defaults work fine, so press oOK.

3. When you what to use wireless, use the "Wireless Internet" connection setup or what ever you named it. When you want to use GPRS, use the "Media Net" connection setup.

No wireless on my 8525
Hello and thank you for reading my post. I am a total newbie, so I apologize for the inconvenient.

I recently purchased an unlocked 8525 to be able to use it in Toronto, Canada. I am very happy with it. However I cannot get it to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. I have a ZIO router with the latest firmware and my 8525 recognizes it in the Configure Wireless Networks.

I have changed the network many times to My ISP, then edited the name of the connection, done soft resets, and even hard resets to start all over again.

I have being lucky twice, but once I log off the internet, I just cannot get back. The arrows in the Wi-Fi connection icon on top of the screen don't stop moving.

Please help me out
