BTW, the biggest difference I see beyond the theme eyecandy is WMP will continue to play when you turn off the phone via power button.

I totally agree.... As far as the looks and the feel of the upgrade it's a totally new and different experience.

I mean it's still my 8525 but better now.

I also noticed that there is a GPS external configuration option. I was finally able to get my BT GPS receiver to work.

Also the phone options, i don't know if you also noticed, there is an option for conference call. Didn't see that w/ the WM5...

Little things here and there sure add up to a nice fine running pda/phone..

ps. i have to ask, on your screen shot, i still can't believe you were able to have close to 33MB free.... only using 10MB of storage memory...

How were you able to do that? did you stop the loading of those extra programs?

Please advise...

But thank you for the info. I was able to follow the trail. This is official i believe so maybe a link might be placed... but I'm a newbie, so I'm not going to take that chance...

the memory was after removing the only 2 apps that showed up in "Remove Programs" and installing My Mobiler.

I have noticed the autocomplete for texts and such is much better as well

Ok Radimus,

This is what i did.

I wanted to be able to have at least 30MB free storage memory so that i can put my programs on my pda/phone not on the storage card. Certain programs that i'm using recommend that i put in the phone/pda storage it just works better.

So what i did was reboot, I initially stopped it right after the reboot and i didn't allow for the Customization part 1 - i don't recall what programs are inputted but i do know that the Media net settings and some other programs weren't there.

But i did notice that i had like 5 MB used only.

Then i rebooted it again but this time i allowed for the Customization part 1 to happen, but then i resetted the phone right before the Customization part 2 was to occur.

So i notice now that i have 10MB storage memory used, and 33MB free. So that's exactly how i wanted it.

I noticed that my media net configuration is back, so presume the first part of customization is necessary.

But i don't think you need the second part.

I think you may have been correct in pointing out that when you remove the two programs that are stored you had that configuration. I tried that i didn't get it.

So i did this instead.

Do you know if it was important for me to have the Second part done and allow it to be stored.

Maybe i'll do a hard reset and try it again.

BTW, is there a limit for hard resets?

I know it's a newbie question...

You can do hard resets all day, it is just like reformatting a hard drive and reinstalling windows... every 6 months to a year is a good idea.

I haven't tried to unlock the extended ROM, but that is where the CAB files for all these customizations are. One of the CABs will have the MMS and mediaNET settings, and others will have the crap AT&T apps they load up like the XM radio and music software, and others will have the voice dialer, etc.

Potentially, you could unlock the ExtROM, delete the cabs for the apps you didn't want, and when you do hard resets only the apps you want will be installed

Here are a few questions for you guys; I know little about this stuff!

1. If I do a hard reset and upgrade from ROM 5 to 6, can I then run a restore of my other stuff?

2. What happens to the Net 2.0 file that I installed? Is it within ROM version 6?

3. Besides the change in ROM, will the upgrade take up any more of my device meory than what was taken by version 5?

4. Last of all is this, there are MANY 'offical' upgrades that I see on XDA website. Is there a link for the real McCoy?

Thanks

1. restoring is a tricky proposition, you can try it and if it doesn't work or is flakey, do another hard reset and do it from scratch.

2.

3.look to the screen cap above for memory utilization

4. none have come direct from AT&T (yet)

BTW, there is something with this OS that seems funny.

It definitely has a power consumption issue. I seem to go through a charge about 2 or 3 hours sooner than before.

I often get roaming warnings where I shouldn't. I'm in a HUGE metro area with 30 miles of AT&T coverage in every direction

I took the plunge yesterday and I am so glad I did. I think it has made my device much smoother, although I was never very satisfied with the Rom Update I installed. I am so glad that the opening 3g amination has ajusted volume. It scared the crap out of my wife everytime I soft reset. I seem to do it more often when she is around for some reason! LOL

I also really like the html email. The overall look is improved. I went green with my theme.Third party aps seem to be more stable also, like resco file explorer, wisbar light, etc...

Now.... BRING ON THE 8925! WOW how cool is is that??? I got 600 bucks stashed for it already!

I had noticed some power consumption issues and a few lockups with it, so I just loaded one of the 'cooked' ROMs.

MUCH lighter and faster, with most of the removed items as stand-alone CABs that can be installed/uninstalled seperately.
