help - 8525 is ALMOST everything I need...
I wanted a PDA phone with 3G, wifi, bluetooth, pocketpc, and a gorgious VGA screen (because I'm spoiled with my x50v) to replace my axim.

The 8525 has everything I wanted except two things:

1.) No VGA screen

2.) crappy WM5 web browser

I've just recently ported my entire outlook calendar to GMAIL calendar, and forwarded all of my 4 e-mail accounts to gmail. I try to access my info from my axim x50v wirelessly and I can't view my calendar well at all because of the limitations of mobile IE.

I was thinking about the iphone because that Samba(?) web browser is suppost to be full-feature, full-supported. iPhone screen rocks but doesn't have 3G support and my medical software won't run on it.

I just can't win.

SO MY QUESTION IS: Will a WM6 upgrade on the 8525 gain me any ground with accessing the full features of gmail or will I have to trial and error with one of the ten or so different web browsers for WM5?

What does gmail use anyway? javascript? Java? php? cfm?

Any thoughts are welcome. thanks so much!

you can get opera as your browser if you feel like installing it.

I'd put WM6 on it in any case as it is a better OS, and these devices have WM6 upgrades provided by the manufacturer (HTC) as well as AT&T branded versions... as well as cooked versions.

There is some gmail sync tools out there somewhere, i think

Amen Fellow HTC Evangelist, Brother Radimus!

I use gmail on my 8525 and it works great. I assume you have a data plan so you can just use gmail only via their mobile portal. I use google as my homepage with a gmail plugin. If you don't want to do that, you can forward your gmails to an outlook pop or just retrieve them off of the google server using their pop server. Either way...

I personally LOVE the HTC devices. I have a 8525 with the WM6 Rom. Awesome. IE has gotten so much better. My main gripe was not being able to save images to blog with, but that has been fixed in WM5.

Personally, I would wait for the HTC Kaiser, or the AT&T branded 8925 aka Tilt. It will be the final iPhone KILLER! I have a log of all the blog info on my website. (look below) There are some videos and a link to the ROM images also. The rumored release date for the 8925 is 10-3-07, but I saw this weekend that it may get delayed until the 11th. So in any case, it will be very soon!

I'd also check out the Seven Beta program... the next version of Cingular xpressmail.

SEVEN Beta Program :: Log in

It is very nice... I'll pay for this service if it isn't free. I love the OWA connector

I don't understand. What is that seven beta thing?

I want something CENTRAL for my calendar. This sync-ing crap is complete BS. I have four computers I'm on at home, countless different computers I use at the hospital and a palm device. Central = internet based + no syncing.

Is that what seven beta is? online calendar and stuff? I also don't want to load down my PPC device with software that's going to land me "INSUFFICIENT MEMORY" errors all the GD time.

yes, I'm bitter, cynical, overworked, underpaid and tired...

Seven is a push email service... it will also push contacts and calendar, ala blackberry service.

I don't know if it uses gcalendar, but it does have gmail connector

I currently use it for a specific pop acct, OWA connect, and desktop connector

update: Google Calendar not currently supported

Gmail is AJAX, but there is an HTML interface that should work in any browser.

excellent. So the question remains, is there a browser in/for WM5 or WM6 or whereever that supports "AJAX" on portible devices so that I can view my gmail e-mail and calendar in full form (not striped down html form)?

can't get opera to show me the non-html site. Is there a way to force opera to go to the regular gmail site?
