trying alternate apps to replace MobileShell and PhoneSuite
One of my pet peeves with some of the SPB apps is their memory footprint.

I don't really have a problem with it's functionality or appearance, just that at least in these cases they are a kitchen sink sort of app.

So, I'm using iLauncher and PhoneWeaver to replicate many of the features I did like from the SPB apps... Both of which I already owned. PhoneWeaver was won here in a contest

There is a trick that I read in the SBSH iLauncher forum to make a iLauncher button list the contents of another iLauncher tab... So I'm making one a speed dial list, another a SMS list, common apps, etc.

The new PhoneWeaver has 3 modes of display now instead of the previous today item, which makes it more flexible.

I did install a freeware app "Call Firewall" to handle the blacklist feature... I'm also considering "Mobile Secretary" But I haven't decided yet.

Interesting thing to try. I use MobileShell and Phone Suite, and iLauncher. Have used iLauncher for ages and just can't really part with it.
I have absolutely not measured memory usage with these apps running - but I don't feel like there's any major performance lag while using them. Spb Pocket Plus is the one that always feels like a huge drain. Anyway, interested to see what you find ...

I was considering something like this for a while, one of my pet peeves is duplication of function and unused functionality. I'd much rather have a thinner, lighter app that only does what I need

I probably didn't use half of what MobileShell had... I really liked the NOW screen, until I realized that all the same info was already on my today screen as it was... duplicated

The contacts manager in it was already in SBSH contacts, there is a built in one in PocketBreeze and a fairly decent lookup tool in the phonedialer in the ROM

etc.

Great. One of my pet peeves is that quite often when I read one of your posts on this sort of subject, it makes me feel like a completely disorganized idiot. Thanks for that ...

Radimus,

Thanks for the great iLauncher trick. I wanted several additional tabs. I prefer display names instead of icons on the tabs. You quickly start truncating the display names. I have now configured iLauncher for no tabs. I have added tab menus for the other tabs to my main tab. I really like the tab menu for the documents tab. Great find!
