New user 8525 questions
I don't usually ask questions...I can figure out my issuses from other posts but...

I have switched from a Dell X50V to the 8525. So far I'm liking it a lot. I have a few complications...

1) I loaded all the drivers for the 8525 including uninstalling my dell active sync just to be safe. When I try and snyc my 8525 its random if it actually syncs or not. Any ideas?

2a) I loaded a my contacts from my Razr on to Microsoft Outlook. It listed them last, fist. I figured out how to display them first, last and "file as" fisrt, last. My 8525 does not recognize the changes when it does sync and just puts a check by it but does nothing to the contacts list.

2b) Is there any way to sort first, last on the 8525? If make an entry on the PDA it displays it last, first order.

3) Anyone konw if a 4gb card will work in the 8525? I have a 2gb but would like the extra room for videos and music. My TomTom take 1gb alone fror the map and that doesnt leave much room. (I know that my Dell X50V only supported a 2gb flash card on WM5 but when I installed wm2003SE it would see my 4gb card.)

Thanks,
Chad

1) try soft reset and then try syncing. I had some issues when I first synced my 8525. Also, check your settings on Active sync....

2)not sure

3) nope... 2 GB the max

Sorry for not getting back sooner....

Soft rest worked...DUH!!!! I dont have a clue why I didnt think of that. 99% of microsoft issues are fix by reboot....lol.

Anyway, once it was staying sync'd I noticed that if I changed the file as name in outlook it changed the sort in the contacts. So... thats fixed too. I have all my "file as" set to first, last and my PDA contacts look good.

As for the 4GB card that sucks.... I read that samsung is ready to release an 8GB card close to the end of the year

DSmithZ28,

Sorry to hear about the Vista... I love BT but have always been a fan of using a cord to sync.

DSmith- That info is for the tilt.?. I just read it on AT&T's site.

I found this out while searching.

Cingular 8525 (HTC Hermes 160) Specs | Technical Specifications | PDAdb.net | Comprehensive Database of PDA, PDA Phone, PNA & Smartphone Specifications

Expansion Slots: SDIO, microSD, TransFlash
Supports memory cards with capacity of up to 2GB and may complies with some non-SDHC cards with higher capacity than 2GB

So does it depend on what kind of mood its in?

no biggie

I *HAD* WM5...

I traded my 8525 yesterday for a 8925. I was right at the end of my 30days.

On a side note is there a pro's and con's for upgrading.?. to the tilt vs 8525?

I miss the light on the camera and im not liking the keypad as much ( the slide is cool but the grey buttons are hard to read.

I think there is a world of difference in the two models. however, some may disagree with me. Briefly, in order of importance in my opinion, the differences are as follows:

1) The Tilt has a much better processor and double the memory. this makes a tremendous difference in usability. For example, I do not like to load GPS programs, Resco file Explorer, and today screen plug in on a storage card. I personally think they run better off of the device.

2) GPS! this is the clincher that the Tilt is the First "true" converged pocket pc phone! And the GPS works great with freeware like google maps of windows live search!

3) the camera is way better on the Tilt. the 3mp camera allows you to actually print large size photos and the auto focus performs very well. I love this camera and use it as my travel camera.

4) the tilt has a better layout in my opinion. The "tilting" screen is a very nice and usable feature. To me, it eliminates the need for a docking station. I can simply "tilt" the screen to see whats going on! I also like the new SIM card location and the micro sd card location. Also, the keyboard has a much better look and feel to it than the previous 8525.

5) Windows mobile 6. Even though you can load the upgrade from HTC that was supposed to be released to AT&T, it is still an upgrade.

those are some of the reasons, and to me, there was no question. The Tilt rocks!
