How easy is the AT&T 8525 WM6 ROM Upgrade?
<p align="left">Earlier today Breley posted about the <a href="http://mobilitysite.com/2007/10/8525-users-rejoice-htc-releases-wm6-upgrade-for-8525hermes/" target="_blank">AT&T 8525 WM6 ROM UPGRADE</a> so I downloaded the ROM upgrade and had to make the decision if I was going to do it then or wait until I returned from the VON trade show I was on my way to this morning.  Of course, knowing that I had the ROM and if I was off to the show, I would be thinking about it all day so I decided that I would give it a try, hope that it was fast then head off to Boston.</p> <p align="left">Let me tell you; the install was faster than they said and it was absolutely the smoothest ROM update I have ever performed.  I was incredibly pleased how easy the process was and was even more pleased at the smoothness that Vista handled the entire process.  So what was the experience like?  The first thing I did was to attach my device and run the install.  </p> <p align="left">As you can see, it began by verifying the software on my PC and installed some device driver software.</p> <p align="left"><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/12.jpg"><img id="id" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px" height="229" alt="1" src="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/1-thumb2.jpg" width="404" border="0" /></a> </p> <p align="left"><em>There are 28 more pictures and an explanation of what was happening after the break</em></p> <div align="left"></div>

<p align="left">Then it gave me the message that the HTC USB Sync was installed successfully.</p> <p align="left"><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/02.jpg"><img id="id" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px" height="229" alt="19" src="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/19-thumb.jpg" width="404" border="0" /></a> </p> <p align="left">but it was only for a second because I knew the ROM upgrade was successful and this message was something I knew I could ignore ... whew!  Then as if by magic, the small green WMDC screen appeared and was quickly covered over by this screen</p> <p align="left"><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/20.jpg"><img id="id" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px" height="229" alt="20" src="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/20-thumb.jpg" width="404" border="0" /></a> </p> <p align="left">and then ABSOLUTE HAPPINESS ... I got the connected screen and it appeared in seconds.  I was a very happy camper!!</p> <p align="left"><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/21.jpg"><img id="id" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px" height="229" alt="25" src="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/25-thumb.jpg" width="404" border="0" /></a> </p> <p align="left">It glided through the sync process with 400+ contacts, my calendar for the past 6 months and hundreds of saved tasks</p> <p align="left"><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/26.jpg"><img id="id" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px" height="229" alt="27" src="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/27-thumb.jpg" width="404" border="0" /></a> </p> <p align="left">How cool was that?  Very cool ... now it was time to sync with my laptop.  Will it take?  Will it be as fast?</p> <p align="left">So I connected the 8525, it immediately saw the device and installed the driver software.</p> <p align="left"><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/28.jpg"><img id="id" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px" height="229" alt="28" src="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/28-thumb.jpg" width="404" border="0" /></a> </p> <p align="left">and in seconds, it was connected and ready to sync with my laptop</p> <p align="left"><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/29.jpg"><img id="id" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 5px; border-right-width: 0px" height="229" alt="29" src="http://mobilitysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/29-thumb.jpg" width="404" border="0" /></a> </p> <p align="left">Was it a smooth process?  Yes!  Absolutely!  My hat is off to HTC, AT&T and Microsoft ... it was painless and WOW, what a difference an OS makes!</p> <p align="left">I played with the 8525 for just a few minutes and was really pleased with the initial performance and there was one feature that made me really happy.  There was an "X" button that really closed programs!!  Very nice!</p> <p align="left">So, I was off to Boston to attend the VON conference.  But wait ... even though I didn't install any software, it did install TomTom  (for some reason) from my memory card.  So I quickly paired my GPS with the 8525, configured and re-registered TomTom 6 and set a route to the Convention Center ... and I was off and I had a BIG smile on my face!</p> <p align="left">With a new device I like to use it for a day or so before I add anything.  This is like having a new device ... noticeably faster, very responsive and it has some neat features.  Tomorrow I'll slowly start to add a few programs to make my ability to Experience Mobility even better.</p> <p align="left">Oh, and the VON conference was terrific!</p> <p align="left"> </p> <p align="left"> </p> <p align="left"></p><P><P><a href="http://mobilitysite.com/?p=8794">View Original Blog Post</a>
