Rad's "Shamanix`s Grass v2.2" and SPB
New ROM: Shamanix_s_Grass_v2.2 from [NEW] Shamanix`s Grass v2.2 [NEW] - xda-developers

My decision was based in large part on the contents of the report from [UPDATED December 22] Which is the best WM6 ROM? Benchmarks of 46 ROMs + links - xda-developers and followup comments in the original thread.

Quote:
I have added benchmark of this ROM to my benchmark thread. You can check the results here. Enjoy the number crunching!
@ Shamanix - this is officially the fastest ROM of any active cook, congrats!
My personal taste in ROMs is to choose the lightest and most stable ROMs. Many of the free addons that most of the chef’s include in their full ROMs are redundant with many of the commercial apps I already own. Why have HTC Home and Launcher installed when I have SPB MobileShell, PhoneSuite and PocketPlus and intend to use them.

Preparation for flashing a ROM:
1. Have all the CAB files for the apps to be installed saved to memory card or available in ActiveSync. I prefer saving the CAB files, as there may a few apps I’d only use occasionally and it is fairly simple to install, use, uninstall as necessary to preserve memory.
2. Do a soft reset on your device clear to any memory leaks then terminate any unnecessary apps.
3. Make a good sync with desktop to preserve Outlook data.
4. Many of the newer apps have a “Backup Settings” feature to preserve their configuration. PocketPlus and others can be so involved that it could take hours to get them tweaked back the way you would want them.
5. Ensure the PPC battery is mostly, if not fully, charged.
6. Do not multitask on the PC during flashing, as an interruption could hose your device.
7. Pray. Karma can be a Bitch.

Flashing the ROM:
Most of the ROMs have instructions on their thread page or in a file included in the archive itself. Most of the ROMs I have flashed merely stated many of the items above and to run the EXE from the package. I have flashed 3 or 4 different ROMs and have had no problems and found the procedure to be very simple and straightforward. (Knock on wood, here I go…)

RUUWrapper ran and installed the ROM in about 5 minutes. The device did the “Align the screen” procedure as expected from any hard reset. Upon completion it performed a customization install to install the apps and such that weren’t cooked directly into ROM.

For documentation purposes, I will connect but not establish a partnership at this time. I'll only connect and allow "My Mobiler" to install so I can get screen captures. Memory values below are prior to "My Mobiler" install and connection:
Quote:
Storage: 66.06MB with 2.63 in use and 63.42 free
Program: 50.77MB with 19.25 in use and 31.52 free
Let the screen captures begin:

I have found that I prefer to have my apps in a storage card in order so I can install the apps in a sequence of "important apps", "nice to have", and "occasionally use". It helps me from losing track of them and makes me think about whether I really need it or not...

The first thing I need to determine is whether I need to install the first 2 items (or any others depending on what was included in the ROM), which were required for the last ROM I used. If you were to get one of the "Full ROMs" odds are there would be many apps cooked in that you wouldn't need to install separately. As the ROMs I choose are usually "Lite", I have to install more by hand afterward.

After checking the connections tab: MediaNet was not there, so I did need to setup the device for connecting to my carrier. (Item #1 in my cab files)

I started Word and then went sequentially left to right, top to bottom to verify the keys were mapped correctly. They weren't... So I need Item #2 from my install Cabs (I adjusted the font to make the comparison easier)

Now to see what is in that advanced configuration tool I spotted that they built into ROM.

Personally, I'd prefer to have all my tuning done in REG files, much quicker and easier to manage, as well as covers things not always available in these 3rd party tools. OK, I looked at it... there were a few things in there, but mostly were duplications of the settings I already had in a reg file to be imported. That being said, I wonder why I keep seeing PHM Regedit in all these ROMs, when it is incapable of imporing the reg files that it creates. I prefer the use of Tascal Reg Editor (TRE) which will export and import reg files, as well as being free. I'll import the reg file last, as some of them are dependant or configure the settings for a few of my apps and I don't want the install of the app to overwrite my reg settings.

Now to install my main apps starting with #3... notice how the install is still going in the order from the cab files...

I installed the SPB apps without resets between or importing the saved settings I made prior to installing the new ROM. Then did the reset and imported the settings files and adjusted the today screen plugins.

I installed and configured the remainder of my most used apps: PocketCM, LiveSearch, and System Seven Push Mail. Some of these apps have had updates since I last saved their install cabs.

I reconnected and setup the partnership with the desktop

I tweaked the button assignments

I copied in a few notification sounds and ringtones I prefer into the windows folder and setup the theme

Now, I'll review the regfile I wish to import and verify the items in it are still appliciable to this setup, and install TRE and import it.

I've just changed to a new ROM: [NEW] K's Flexi Rom [AutoCab Installation-Uninstallable Apps-BigSto-Black-WWE-Touch] - xda-developers

Mostly for the AutoCab installation feature

I also just upgraded the Radio from 1.47 to 1.54.07.00
