Both will have agps (assisted gps). I just read that agps is actually pretty good. HOWEVER, it never occurred to me that the agps would be locked to AT&T software and data plan... Now that would suck...

Isn't there legislation somewhere about to be passed that would restrict carriers from locking devices? I wonder how long that will take?

Allow me to rephrase. The unit unlocked might have the capability for GPS or AGPS, but in order to use the feature on the subsidized unit, you'll probably be asked to purchase the "data plan" so that you can access the AGPS function, in the same fashion that a lot of companies disabled the built-in features of the Blackberry and inserted their own product, or required that you purchase their product or service in order to make the feature work.

Don't get me wrong, I sincerely hope that I'm wrong. I just start to expect these kind of things over the last few years... :rolling:

Never heard of it, but you can bet ALL of the carriers will be fighting that one...

When I discovered the ETEN Glofiish x500+, and found that it meets all of my needs, including GPS and VGA screen, I was ecstatic! I have since been very cautious, going out of my way to get a non-subsidized version to avoid having the GPS (or other features) disabled...
