GPS on AT&T Tilt
The Tilt comes with TeleNav
TeleNav
TeleNav 5.2 can be downloaded directly on the device and costs $10/month (gives you regular map updates and software that is always up-to-date)
I am looking forward to trying Windows Live Search, Google Maps, and Virtual Earth Mobile
I am eager to give TeleNav a spin... and look forward to hearing others thoughts on it.... as well as other GPS possibilities on the Tilt!

TeleNav works pretty good but it is defenitely not worth 10 dollars a month. I had it flip out on me twice today and caused me to backtrack several miles. It does work very well. Google and live serch work well, do not have voice comands. This makes it hard to know when to start merging over if you are really zoomed in. The gps works great all in all. I used it for about 750 miles this week!

Hi everyone,
The TyTN II is my first venture into the world of GPS on a PPC and I feel like I must be missing a step.
When I run Google Maps and select "Track Location" I see the "Initializing GPS" box in the corner, but it times out and gives me the "Your GPS receiver does not appear to be responding" message. That sounds different from a message that might be received if there was an issue with finding the satellites, (and besides, I was doing this outside with lots of clear sky.) So is there something I need to set first to "turn GPS on?"
Any idea what I'm missing?
Thanks,
Kelly

You need to initialize the tilt GPS receiver first. I never figured out how to do that other than using GPStest, a freeware download. Once downloaded, run it (GPStest) and it will search com ports (com4) for the GPS. Run Windows Live and select 'center on GPS position.'

Tilt GPS and other software?
How/can you use the Tilt GPS with Pocket Streets? I really don't want to shell out $10 a month on something that I don't use very often.
Nothing in any documentation I read said it would only work with Telenav.

There's no icon to turn on the gps, it simply works when it needs to. Did you run the quick GPS in the programs menu??? run it forst and let me know if that takes care of things...

I ran QuickGPS and did the download
Under Settings > Connections > GPS > it is set at "CHAP"
Under Settings > System > External GPS > it is set to comm port 4 and baud 4800
I downloaded Vito Astro Navigator II (it is supposed to show the stars and galaxies overhead via GPS)
When I run that GPS program it states that "it cannot find my GPS receiver" "Refer to documentation and slect port and speed manually"
So, as a total novice in the world of GPS, I ask, where and what is my GPS receiver? Is it built into the Tilt? Do you need a program like TelNav to get a receiver. I am confused and the Tilt handbook documentation doesn't help!

You do NOT need to set up an external gps... That is MS WM6 add on to the ROM. Your device has it built in and the hardware DOES NOT have any configuration. All you need to do is open up an application, try google maps, and it menu track location...
I'm not usre with third party software like Vito, you may want to email them, but I can assure you google, Live search both work great with no configuration...

Yes, I connected to google Maps and it found me!
That's a relief, but why does AstroNavigator refuse to find my Com Port and Baud, thus initiating the program.
I hope someone else gives this a try, finds the answer, and posts it!
VITO support was not very helpful, so I started a new incident report anyway.

Ran two sets of tests.
Google MAps
Windows Live Search
Both had the same blinking lights:
One Green light left side
Then
One Green left Side and One Orange Right Side at the same time.
No Blue Light... (7 satellites with Google Maps, but a little buggy, Windows Live Search hooked up sweet)
