Insight into Doing a Hard Reset on the Tilt
Moving up from an 8525 to the Tilt 8925, I figured how hard can a hard reset be to do?

First, I needed to find out that the 2 keys that you hold down are the 'soft' keys, while you push in the reset button with your stylus. The directions then says to hit the green telephone button when the screen shows the magic question; "Do you wish to do a hard reset and lose all data?"

So I plunged in the stylus while holding the two soft keys, but I never got to the green button stage, I just never got the hard reset message.

After 10 attempts, my frustration level was critical, so I googled this question, and found a dialogue in Howards Forum about the very same problem. Others were having the same problems with hard resets.

I never did figure out how to do the hard reset.

Luckily, I went back to the manual, thanks to gasusan's post, and found out that if possible, there is another way to do this. Go to settings > System > Clear Storage. When you tap on it, you get the "do you want to do a hard reset?" question; if so, you type in " 1 2 3 4 " and it happens.

So, what happens if you are totally frozen and can't get to use the software hard reset? The guy at Howard's forum said that the hard reset using the stylus and soft keys worked for him, but on the 20th attempt...

There must be a trick to doing this maneuver..post it when you find it!

It is a pain, and I had trouble on my 8525 when I just recently sold it to time all of the events coorectly to score a hard reset!

I am still using the Demo unit (hush Susan, I'm ordering it in the next couple of days) and noticed that the soft reset is a litle stiff. It doesn't "depress" like the 8525. Did anyone else notice this?

I dread doing hard resets, but I am to the point of having to do it. It is really acting buggy... I have some back ups, so it won't be a big deal, but I have so many other things I could be doing!

One would be trying to re-install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.0 instead of the worthless upgrade to 6.1. It absolutely amazes me that Microsoft could make things worsee from activesync to WMDC! AMAZING! The program is an absolute piece of GARBAGE! Much like Vista, but I can tolerate Vista.

The trick is simple, yet can elude you if you are not aware.

Push all three and HOLD them. It may take a few seconds, but the unit will eventually respond with the white reset screen.
