Dell GPS Software + Tilt?
I am a proud owner of an Axim x30 and now a Tilt, since I have the GPS attachment for the Axim (with pre-loaded maps) I'm going to try installing it on my Tilt when my MicroSD card comes in. Has anyone tried using this software to contact the integrated GPS in a tilt?

I really prefer the loaded maps as opposed to the Google maps etc ... i figure i already have software i know/like may as well try it ya know?

Orr.. Not the best idea.
installed without a hitch, but when it tries to enable the GPS it sometimes works, sometimes doesnt.

if it fails to enable (or recognize an enabled gps) it locks up the phone's buttons leaving only the touch screen available.

any suggestions on 3rd party software that doesnt charge per month?

Well I think i'm at a larger issue now,

When trying to use any gps software to get a connection, the phone freezes or the process fails.

Dell's GPS navigator - Freeze but detects on Com4 - 2400bps
GPS Tuner - Freeze - cannot finish configure.
Google Maps - Fail, sometimes detecting sometimes not.

I'm trying to avoid the data plan as long as i can since im not travelling much right now (will be soon) so i dont want to pay for something i wont really use.

I really wish there was a configuration option for the internal unit, or a way to manually activate it...

iGuidance
I have iGuidance 3.0 working fine on my AT&T Tilt. At first it took a LONG time to acquire a fix, I then ran QuickGPS and now it connects just as fast as my X30H with BT-338.

its possible i've just not been patient... how long does it take for the first time to acquire a fix? i dont remember my axim taking very long with the external one so maybe i was just spoiled

i'll check out iGuidance too, thanks!

--update--
On my lunch break i tried windows Live Search and pocket street, street detected the gps and location without any problems this time, live search didnt have a data connection to download the maps... maybe i'll try the dell software again now that one of them has worked

I bought my own Tilt and fired it up and it took several minutes to aquire. I actually forgot about the Quick GPS. So I ran QG and then ran Google maps and it worked fine. NOTE: before doing any of this I called AT&T and verified that I DO NOT HAVE A TELENAV plan. Google maps aquired much quicker after that.

Second: I disabled my data connection and ran google maps again and it aquired fine. I'm not sure why others are having issues, mine is working great!

So far I can get Pocket Streets to register a location, and track me (9-10 sats) as I drive, but the Dell software doesnt, not sure why yet. the software should accept the connection (NMEA) I'll keep playing with the settings.

Google would acquire a fix, but it didnt have the map data stored, so it was kinda pointless. I knew where I was on the grey screen though! Gonna try to download the data for live search and google to see if i can get it cached...

This blessed little device loves to test my patience

looks like the programs can activate the GPS component, but cant access it afterward, including shutting it off!!

i let windows live run for 5 minutes trying to acquire a GPS signal (after running quickgps) and nothing but a flashing amber light to the right of my speaker.

closed the program and much to my suprise the light stayed, and the phone was active sluggish. It seems to be a correlation between slow phone performance and an over-active GPS.

any suggestions? a soft-reset sped everything back up to its normal brisk pace but i'd like to get it running consistantly...

I would do a back up using the only worth while software AT&T included Sprite Backup and then Hard Reset. Only load google maps, run quick gps, then run google, and see what happens. (make sure you are outside and it is clear so you can aquire satellites quickly) If the same problem happens, you may have to exchange with AT&T...

Thats what I was afraid someone would say. I'll do a hard reset tonight and be a bit more careful about whats loaded and try again. on the plus side I got in my 6Gb microSD card so i can store backups and installers on that

I'll let you all know how it goes. If i get it working with MS Live or Google Maps i'll try Dell's software again (with a backup before trying it >.< )

ended up formatting/hard resetting
using GPS Test and Gps Viewer i was able to get the GPS active and Google Maps showing the proper location. even better it STOPPED and restarted when asked!

Preparing to install the Dell software again.
Note: QuickGPS was used, attached to GPS within 30 seconds initially, and maintained it as i went into my house (was off by 30' or so, but i think Google doesn't like off-roading)

One more update for the night to come after Dell gets installed. For now i'll plan on using GPS Test to initiate the reciever, and a program like pocket streets for the travel...
