Is the AT&T Tilt the Best PPC Phone Ever?

Doug did his thing and posted his review. It's lighting fast. This is the most responsive PPC Phone i've used to date. Application installations take seconds and there is ZERO lag when navigating the menus.

I then paired the TILT with my Motorola HT-820 Stereo Bluetooth Headphones. Called Jack Cook, listened to some Disturbed and Linkin Park (Seeing them live Friday!), and made a couple more calls. I am really digging the Tilt.

Back in January 2007, I had the opportunity to see the Kaiser in a closed room meeting and fell in love with the tilt screen then. I used the i-mate Kjam for so long, that I am so used to the design, but I have been using the Treo 750 for a while now so I have to get reacquainted with the slide out keyboard.

View Original Blog Post

Chris, I have to agree. I have so much loaded on my Tilt right now (see my PDA list) and it just runs great! The processor handles all my tasks and I have enough memory that sluggish performance seems to be a thing of the past. I only wish for 3 things:

1) Video out. This would make it a lot easier to do presentations. I wouldn't have to bring a laptop anymore.

2) VGA screen - I know it's a power hog, but after seeing the screen on my dad's Axim X50v years ago, nothing has compared since.

3) Wished that HTC utilized the trackball/scroll dial setup from the Artemis (HTC P3300). My friend has the Artemis and using the trackball and scroll dial is great!

Otherwise, I have no complaints about the device. For me, the Tilt/TyTN II is the ultimate in PocketPC's (though the new i-Mate Ultimate 9502 may take that tile very soon).

I would also have to agree! The Tilt has been a great companion and I am just loving the camera. It seems the camera has not gotten the press it justly deserves. It is a very good camera, probably the best so far in any device. (PPC Phone). The autofocus is excellent and the 3mb now gives the needed resolution to actually print large size photos.

The GPS is just awesome. I tested it thoroughly and agree with all of the reviews. It performs great!

I for one really do not need the VGA screen, I would like video out however for the GPS. Would be neat to try. Boxwave has the mini usb to audeo cord so you can hook into an aftermarket car radio and actually hear the GPS and play your MP3's. I really like Mortplayer for this with the Large UI option they have.

I gotta say, the Tilt is the best so far also!

I agree that it is the best phone out there. I could go for a bigger screen, but it is a phone afterall. I have loaded all the software that I used on my X50 with no problems and with tons of ram left. I used the KaiserTweaks application from XDA to do the various registry edits and found that the performance increase quite a bit over its already quite good speed. Overal, a great phone. I really like using the new version of Live Search Mobile with the GPS. A great combination of search features and direction finding.

If you are having success wit the registry tweaks, please post them for our readers! I have been reading about them, but have been too busy testing the device in its "unmolested" state. I'll next start some registry edits until there is a 100% safe cooked ROM released. I absolutely hate seeing all that AT&T trial garbage on my device!

I'm still undecided. My choices? In no particular order:
 • Stick with my existing separate phone & PDA
 • Get a new phone
 • Get a new PDA
 • Get a new converged device

My current items of interest? Again, in no particular order:
 • HP iPaq 211
 • HTC Kaiser (aka AT&T Tilt aka AT&T 8925)
 • i-mate Ultimate 6150
 • i-mate Ultimate 8150
 • E-Ten GloFiish X800
 • HTC Polaris

Like Rainman1976, a VGA screen would be the cherry on top of this delicious PDA/Smartphone sundae!

It was nice to be able to remap the top left button via the post on XDA, to even get more functionality out of the device. I wish that HTC/AT&T had left all of the demo software on a disc, instead of bloating my ROM and RAM.

A better manual would also be appreciated; thank goodness to folks in the forums who know a heck of a lot more than I do about how to fix and set these devices!

Not so much the device, but the accessories, it would be great if Boxwave came out with a smudge proof screen protector and I wish Vaja would offer an option to the horizontal pouch that is their only offering for the HTC units.

Yes, I think the Tilt is the best device that I have ever owned!
I have yet to even use the Camera or GPS for obtaining directions to a destination; but, with my profession, I am a heavy PDA user with mega information packed into my Tilt and micro card. Whereas I had the same setup with my Hermes, I had multiple daily freezes as I attempted to multitask the PDA.
So far, I have had no soft resets secondary to memory freezes with this device. The phone works flawlessly as well.

I certainly hope so.. I just got one, and I can't have another new phone for at least 2 years... My wife does NOT understand evolving technology.
