Does your device seem to have that sluggish, "I can't get started in the morning" feeling about it? Well, fear not! You won't need to figure out how to force coffee through your mini-USB cable to perk up your Tilt! Our good friends at XDA-Developers (dot com) have figured out the trick to loose that unwanted "Bloatware" that AT&T so ridiculously loads on our precious devices! And it is very easy to perform! Here is what you will need to do:

1) Back up your Tilt using the included Spite Back Up software included!

2) Hard reset your device (It's worth it trust me!). Now there are two ways to accomplish this. The easiest way is the Clear Storage application under Settings/System/Clear Storage, or you can hold the two soft key buttons and simultaneously soft reset. I never get this to work however. Just use the Clear Storage and save yourself a lot of embarrassment from your uncoordinated fingers! (LOL)

3) When your Tilt reboots it will take you through the normal screen alignment process and then setting your time zone, and finally the cut and paste routine. When it brings up the home screen there will be a pop-up that prompts enhancements will begin in three seconds, QUICKLY SOFT RESET WHILE THIS IS DISPLAYED! Your device will soft reset and then bring up the today screen and avoid loading all the Bloatware! Hooray! No more Bloatware!

Now load all your favorite applications and resume your life feeling much more slimmed down with the knowledge that your Beat the Bloat laid on you from our good friends at AT&T!

Enjoy my fellow Tilt Friends!

View Original Blog Post

You wanted all that extra memory, AT&T is just trying to help you to use it :)

I just wish I would have done a standard hard reset and got the memory usage, then done the Bloat removal trick and checked the memory to see what the savings was. I fell like it was pretty significant.
I may get my device back up and running, backup, hard reset and find out. Curiosity will kill me...
I didn't check it. I will get my Tilt finished loading up with my apps, backup and hard reset and install the bloat, then hard reset again using the bloatware trick to figure it out. Be tomorrow. Trick or Treating duties tonight with the rug rats!
Will you need to add the Proxy Manager afterwards? (included in the "bloat" under Start>Programs>Tools) It's used to enable and disable AT&T's hidden proxy that allows you to get on the MEdia Net site, but prevents internet passthrough when USB connected to ActiveSync.
Is your Tilt noticably faster without the bloatware?
Also, what is the difference between doing it your way and going to Start>Programs>Tools>Java and deleting them that way? You can remove Mrs. Pac Man from Remove Programs, and delete MobiTV from Program Files and the Start Menu. CV and MEdia Net are just web links.
Is there anything else inluded with the Bloat?
Sorry, I'm just not a real big fan of hard resetting!
You can selectively reinstall most of the applications by searching for .cab files using Total Commander. I did this a while back and didn't notice much if any speed change. However, if you run KaiserTweak, there are several things there that will speed it up quite a bit. The good folks at XDA Kaiser forums have that app sticked in one of the forums.
As posted by others, the all or none process scares me, without knowing exactly what I am losing (all programs, settings, etc) by not doing the AT&T download.
I also have hunted for shortcuts and applications like Pacman and deleted them.
Question: What if you did a hard reset, soft reset before download of AT&T stuff, and then ran a restore, instead of reinstallation? Anyway to figure out what would be my gain in memory and speed?
Thanks
