question about flashing custom roms
Im not sure what rom i have on my device right now and i stopped the cab from loading from ATAT so i wouldnt get all that crap on my phone. My question is if i use hardSPL to flash to my device does that get rid of the default rom or cab thats left on the device? I want to use this rom:
Dutty's Hybrid TouchFlo NO.7 NU-Skool RTM as i have heard its pretty awesome but im an unsure about how to start this process..ive been on XDA developers but they are all hardcore pros and dont have the do it for dummies section i dont think.
also if i do the unlock procedure b4 i flash, do i have to redo after?
thanks for any help:approve:

It seems like most of the kaiser xda types are transplants from other htc platforms. They say the xda hermes forum has a wiki for rom burning beginners. After you figure it out be sure to let the rest of us know too.

Search for where you to get Dutty's ROM from and read all you can before your HardSPL your device. The main thing with custom ROMs is to make sure you have HardSPL installed before doing anything else. HardSPL will not remove your current ROM and/or software. Installing a new ROM will.

ok
Ive been looking over the wiki and i was just unsure of myself really. If you install a diff rom to the tilt, will the cab files for att still be there that you cant delete? i was going to call att today and ask for the unlock. If i can delete the 10mb of space being taken up by the crap software that att defaults on phones i would be happy also.
thanks for all the help:approve:

liquidraven02,
Once you flash a ROM all files and settings on the device is reset to default. You need to reconfigure. Most of the ROMs out there do give you additional space. The ROM I'm running right now gave me 154+MB free. I then install all my applications and then now I have about 120MB free. Not bad.

Sounds like configuration info is important before one flashes the device. Is there an online source for that or is it all contained within the Tilt?

You would need to unlock the device if you want to use it with a different carrier sim. Otherwise no need to unlock.
Congrats on the ROM upgrade. :)

When you flash the device with a new ROM all configuration info is lost. It's not recommended that you do a backup and restore because the new ROMs may have settings that most likely will be affected. Just flash and install your software a needed and reconfigure the device. This is one of the downside of flashing a new ROM.

Any links describing the what and how to reconfiguring? I could picture flashing the rom and discovering the phone, email, or internet didn't work.
