Worried Flashing my ROM. Good idea??

Since I haven't received any responses to my previous question about pocket IE crashing when I try to log into websites, I think I'm going to go ahead and try to re-install the whole darn operating system. Hopefully this will fix the problem. So, now, my question is this:

1) Where can I find the most recent ROM for my AT&T Tilt (HTC ROM is fine, better actually). It's only 2 weeks old so I want to make sure I'm not going backwards in upgrades and goodies.
2) Can this be done WITHOUT using Activesync or a similar program?
3) Is this even a good idea? Do you think it will fix the problem?

Thanks

I think I'd try a hard reset or a different browser before different ROMS but to answer your questions....

1) If it's two weeks old you're probably already running the latest and greatest from AT&T - check out xda for the best ROM for your needs

2) You need ActiveSync (or Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista) to push the nwe ROM to your device

3) Based on your initially stated problem of IE crashing I don't think I'd start with new ROMS but there's all kinds of cool stuff in the baked/cooked ROMS

I am using Dutty's v4 ROM which is based on the DualTouch. Very sweet! I have had no issues with it other than the weather plug in that you will have to replace the .dll file to get to work with another host server.Other than that it is fast, and pretty stable.

I had already tried doing the hard reset (multiple times, both "clear storage" route and hardware route) and tried the Opera browser and nothing worked. HTC tech support told me to mail it in for repair but I'm trying anything and everything before resorting to that. It used to work great, no problems whatsoever. It only started doing this after a hard reset (done to just fix a small power issue). Once I did the latest hard reset that's when the problem started.

Thanks for the advice guys. Guess I'll have to go find someone who runs Windows on their computer (ick!) so I can install Activesync. (Just when I thought I'd never have to touch another Windows PC again! ) Then I'll go take a look at Dutty's v4 ROM :approve:

Thanks a bunch guys! Appreciate the help

There is always the possibility of using a virtual machine... but I wouldn't guess how the USB port would operate virtualized

Great minds think alike! I'm already on it. I installed VMWare on my Linux box, then installed WindowsXP followed by ActiveSync. I was able to use the USB port just fine in VMWare and connected to Activesync no problem. Now all that's left to be done is download HardSPL, the new cooked ROM and I'm good to go! :approve: Yippie! One step closer to greatness ;)
