AEButtons Plus: The easiest way to remap Tilt's sofkeys
I keep on seeing posts asking how to remap the PTT button, the other softkeys, etc. Somehow no one else has come across AEButtons Plus, which is a great and easy way to remap almost all of the softkeys, including the PTT button. No registry hack needed, and the program is completely free.
Here's the link: AE Button Plus
No, I'm not being paid by them. It just seems like no one's heard of this very useful program.

AE Buttons won't remap PTT for me
As much as I'd like to kill the PTT button & remap it to something useful, I've been unable to acheive success with AEButtons Plus despite repeated attempts. When I give up and uninstall AEB-P I find the native button assignments to be screwed-up. Any clear instructions for the ATT-tilt on how to use AEB-P to remap PTT?
Thanks!

Here's how to do it:
On the AE home screen, hit File (left softkey)---Add button--Press the PTT button--Press Add key. That new button will be at the bottom of the button list and you can configure it like any other button with AE. It won't say "PTT Button." AE named mine Button #00E9. But whatever it is, it will be on the bottom of the list so scroll all the way down.

It is free. The trial version is fully, or at least sufficiently, functional. It's all I use.

Why not just edit the registry?.. No third party software required. Google search here, xda, or just search"remap att tilt ptt button".

Does AEButton+ work just as fast as a button press before? I downloaded it and didn't keep it for more that ten minutes, because when pressing the start (windows) button, for example, there was a bit of a delay before the start menu appeared on the screen.
So then I took the program off and edited the registry with Resco Explorer to remap PTT button (both single press and press&hold), which was really easy.

Yes, it is easy to reprogram the PTT button via the registry; it's been posted at the XDA website, Wiki page for Tilt.
The beauty of AEButtons Plus is it's ability to allow you to program each button 4 times. Thus you can start a different program with a single click, while a second application can launch with a double or triple tap of that button. Holding the button for a prolonged time will launch the 4th program. You also have an option of launching commands such as Cut and Paste, Soft Reset, etc.
I used the program for a while, but started having problems with premature application launchings, while the Tilt was in my belt clip.
I actually just went back to using it, this time only setting 2 buttons for multiple application launching. You do not need to reset all of the buttons on your Tilt to run via AEButtons Plus,

I'm using the button mapping from Pocket Plus at the moment... but AEbuttons does seem to have a lot of extra stuff..
|
Quote:
|
* intercept almost any standard button: application buttons, WM5 SoftKeys, Volume slider, Action and even Red/Green phone buttons
* distinguish up to 4 different keypress events on each button grabbed (single, double, triple and "long" keypresses).
* remap each of the keypress events to "virtual" application button or assign them directly to one of the wide set of built-in actions.

The Clipboard operations: Select All / Copy / Cut / Paste
|
feature could be really handy
I think I'm going to backup then give it a go....

Well it was copying and pasting that I really wanted to do on my TyTn keyboad... why they didn't put a controll key on it i'll never know
Anyway.. Meniesys again is a star.. and anytime he's in liverpool I'll buy him a beer
Because in this thread http://www.aximsite.com/boards/appli...ini-users.html
He has a link to this app
PQzII for Window Mobile
which you can download from here
NICQUE Freeware
Its free and a little bit complicated.. but so far I've mapped the windows key on my keyboad to act as the ctrl key and the alt key. (press once its ctrl, press twice its alt... 3 times ctrl alt and 4 times back to nothing.
There's 42 pages! of discussion about it on xda developers... so guess what i'm going to be reading now....
Would you like to use CTRL/ALT on your Universal? :D - xda-developers
