I know the feeling .. My first two had few problems on the mainland, but hated the Big Island. What I noticed was that as long as I had a 3G signal or an Edge signal, it would be OK, but if it dropped those and found a GPRS signal, it would stay locked on that antenna and would not find another one even if you were next to another antenna, and ATT admitted that it was a problem in tracking. A soft reset let it find an antenna again, but 10 of those a day was getting old. If I had a signal in Kona, and went into Home Depot and lost it, then it would never find a signal again. If I drove from Kona to Waimai it would get a weaker signal, but then stay on that weak antenna until I did a soft reset and it found a closer one. The newest (3rd) phone does not have that problem, and finds signals without a problem. There are some bad ones out there, and you must have one. Get the replacement, put Kaiser tweaks in it, and life should be good. If not, have them do it again, but when you get a working one, all will be fine.
