New user about WiFi/3G, KaiserTweaks, Skyfire, and microSDHC
I just ordered an ATT Tilt and it should be arriving tomorrow. I currently do not have and do not want a data plan, but may like to use WiFi since I'm on a university campus pretty much all the time.
Can using KaiserTweaks disable EDGE/UTMS/HSDPA? The only time I use any net connection is for MMS and I assume I could turn on a net connection as easily as I can turn it off.
I also have a feeling this would greatly improve battery life...
It's hard to understand how some of this may work when you don't have the phone in front of you, but I'm just being diligent and doing my research.
Also, despite SkyFire's current beta being closed, are there places that have the cab available? It'd be a shame to miss out on a solid browser because of timing...
Finally, are the highest capacity microSDHC available right now 8gb? Is there any known time table for when we can expect some of the higher capacity cards?
Thanks for the help, it's more difficult than one would think to find a really good laymen getting started guide for the Tilt...

8gb is the largest available right now, we all know how the memory game goes. eventually there will be larger capacities.
skyfire is a proxy based closed beta (very closed) and from what i understand, is only available in the us. i would imagine because of budget reasons. stick with opera or opera mini...
kaisertweak has disconnect after, always on, and enabled settings for data connections. for more granular control use bvrp gprs manager, or spb gprs manager (the better of the two), if your concerned about data usage.
enjoy your new device!

Thanks for advice. I'll definitely be checking out those two programs if kaisertweak isn't adequate. I definitely don't want to get any mistake data fees at the moment.
I'm a huge tinkerer so it looks like this device is going to be a lot of fun...

if you dont want to deal with the charges, just dont set up or delete the at&t data connection... you can always add it later. that way you cant even accidentally accrue data connection charges

no i dont believe (remember) that this is possible with either program. i used to use the spb program, then switched to an iphone (unlimited data plan), and started using wizcode gprs keepalive :)
im pretty sure the spb utility has a trial
