Started evaluating the Tilt over the last few days. I like it much better than the iPhone for my use pattern. It reminds me a lot of my old Hp100 + Radiomail setup for those who remember that far back.

A few questions for current users.

- Can you sucessfully run Skype when using WiFi connection?

- I use AVG for my PC antivirus sw. They don't have a WinMobile version. WHat sw have you found works well w/o impeding performance of the unit?

- same question for antispyware sw.

- the ATT rep claimed that ATT will provide unlock codes for FREE after 3 months on a contract. Can anyone verify this to be true and hassle-free?

I can't speak for the anti virus or the att unlocking but I can definitely say that skype works pretty well. There's a little delay sometimes in the speech but other than that it's good.

I think the general consensus here is that you don't need antivirus for a ppc yet as there are no virus' to get rid of.

there are some windows mobile threats out there. just not that prevalent...

there are different antivirus programs for windows mobile. the most lightweight and best imo would be the kaspersky mobile client.

ive got into heated conversation about this in the past, so to sum up... a pdas insecurity is typically local, not remotely vulnerable. although a crafted sms mms or email message could deploy a virus or a trojan on your device, or worse, your enterprise network; likely this wont happen.

but it can happen, thats why these products exist. most people shouldnt install this kind of software. just understand that some situations and security policies require such software to be deployed.

the kaspersky client is actually pretty lightweight and has an on demand scanner (which can be disabled). the process of scanning takes a while on most devices. ive tried the others. nothing interesting except the addition of a firewall on some packages such as the airscanner security package, and the symantec.

as far as anti spyware, im only aware of the spybot scanner for windows mobile. again, takes forever to scan.

regarding unlock codes, they are required by law to give you an unlock code for your device. ive never heard of anyone having problems with this...

Call 611 and just tell them you want them to give you the unlock code. They told me they would do it for me once my Tilt arrives in the mail (I am on an agreement with them for just under two years now). It may take a call or two if you get someone that is an ass, but just call back and talk to someone else if you have a problem. They can definitely do it without too much work.
