what's the deal?

So what's the deal with windows 6.1? I only ask because I really don't understand if there's any major improvements over 6.0. I'm really hesitant about putting any new roms on my phone because I can't afford to buy another and I don't want to "brick" it. So aside from the threaded sms (which I think is awesome by the way), what makes it so great? Any answers would be great.

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

you will lose all your stuff (unless you try the backup programs, which I'd not suggest when changing ROMs)

You will need a custom ROM from over at XDA, until HTC/AT&T release the "Official" ROM.

If you look in the 8525 forums, I have several logs from my ROM upgrades as well as some best practices. I just flashed in 4 different 6.1 ROMs this week looking for a good stable and efficient one for my 8525.

make sure you read about backing up and restoring over a new rom upgrade.

in addition to your sprite backup i would make some other raw backups of the directories on your device to you desktop just in case. i would tend not to recommend a restore of a sprite backup over a new rom image. youll wind up messing things up inadvertently. its best to back up your pim data, have an idea of programs installed, and flash the rom, restore your contacts, set up your device settings, and reinstall and configure any software you had previously had installed.

there are a lot of resources out there listing all the improvements of the new os revision. expect not to see it from att or htc before may-june

I wouldn't worry too much about 6.1 quite yet. It does look like the tilt will get the upgrade but who knows what time frame we are talking.

It really should be a problem with installing the update. You just want to be sure to read all the instructions & follow them to the letter. Also, be sure you don't loose your active sync connection.

i personally dont see no problem with updating it.

1) They are also telling everybody about zoom in option in Internet explorer, so that you can zoom a part of the page you are browsing like on iPhone.

2)Threaded messaging.

3)Microsoft Office One Note

4)Easy initial set-up: Getting Started

5) more profound task manager (shows how many resources which program eats)

So, if you think of it. Threaded messaging is what makes it so desirable. If this is the case with you you might wait until official release of your ROM and check out SMS-Chat. It works both on 5.0 and 6.0:
